MessageWas aboard the USS Randolph 56-60. Wanted to know if anyone has pictures. The ones I've seen are very few, but there has to be MORE of SIR Winston Churchill aboard the Randolph with the 8 crewmen. Anyone have any info please let me know. Would be greatly appreciated. I was one of the crewmen in the Churchill photo.

MessageI served aboard the Randolph right out of boot camp in 1965 as a Gunner's Mate. A dear friend who will celebrate his 90th birthday 2.14.08, Maxwell Peachey, served aboard her during WWII in the ship's laundry. Hoping to hand him an e-mail from a family member who may have served with him.

MessageI served on the RANDOLPH from Jun 65 through Feb 69. I was one of the last to leave the RANDOLPH in Boston.

I worked in OI Division and had to leave because I was still a Canadian citizen and did not have a clearance.

I knew Mike Gibson, RD1 Davis, RD3 Kauffman, RDSN Treadway(he never left the ship) Dave Lewey, and RD3 Gary Davis (GE).

The RANDOLPH memories are very dear to me I guess because I was only 18-22 in those long ago days.

If you remember me drop a line.

I was GE's friend and the vent cleaner.

MessageMy father was Colton T Collins. He was an officer and the ship's dentist on the USS Randolph for 2 years, from 1952 to 1954, during peacetime as it toured the Mediteranean Seas. Luckily he had a good camera and a love of taking pictures.
My siblings and I have fond memories of our father pulling out his slides and projector, to give us a show and narration of his time on the Randolph. The scenery shots of all the ports were breathtaking (the slides are in color) plus plenty of slides of the ship, flight deck, planes taking off and landing, the dental clinic, a bunk room...There are also occassional ones of officers and crew on the ship and in ports.
Sadly, my father passed away in Dec. 1991, at 64, from cancer. Recently, my siblings and I dug out his old slides and set up the projector for a trip down memory lane with the pictures we remembered from my dad's old shows.
Of the 100 or so slides, most have little meaning to us, (many have ports labeled, others don't), as only a few times did someone else get the camera to get a shot of him.
Rather than destroy the slides, we'd prefer to give them to this website or to someone who would value them because they actually remember what the people, places and events are of.
Do you know who we might pass these on to so they are saved for the memory of the crews from back in 1952 to 54? (they are all in old slide form, in slide carousels).
Please let us know;
Thanks, Denise (a proud daughter)

MessageMy Father, Jasper David Pope AKA J.D. Pope, Chief Petty Officer, was serving on the USS Randolph during WWII (1945). He was aboard the ship when the kamakazees hit the Randolph. Dad said he was with a group of men who had just finished seeing a movie and was walking out when one of the kamakazees hit. He said some of the men that were with him were killed. Dad was shielded by a US plane on deck. If any one remembers my Dad, please email me. Dad passed in 2003

God Bless America
