MessageI vote for suggestion A in the tanking debate...Regarding the playoff pool, I like shortenned rosters, ability to make changes each round, and the ability to make trades that are reversed after the playoffs.

Messagemy votes are:
B
1.Y
2.Y
3.Y

substitutions between rounds? N (or is this what drops means?)

re Epp's unbridled enthusiasm for this pool:

-atta boy
-some interesting suggestions, i can't see them gaining much support though, further debate possibly after the playoff format is decided
-there's nothing to stop anyone from making trades that stick to bolster their playoff dreams (with or without the playoff trades rule), but any team that aggressively pursues that strategy will throw player values out of wack for the pool
-crazy, borderline gay idea: the playoff pool winner gets an extra redraft pick

MessageRe: Play-off format

Philly made a good proposal. I believe we have consensus on 3 items.

1. Shortened roster
2. No drops
3. No money

Now we need input on the other 3 (plus input on shortened roster size specifications)

1. Trades (seems to be some who like trades, some who don't)
2. Supplemental draft
3. Phillies new idea of the bonus points for filling out the play off bracket.

Please post on the banter board your preferences.

MessageRe: Terror penalty

In my opinion there 2 options for penalization for "tanking" (whether it be purposeful or merely the case of neglect).

Harsh hard-line option
a) the team in question gets the last pick in the re-draft (every round including prospect draft) - this also includes picks from the squad that have been traded.

Reasonable option
b) the team in question will be ranked in the position in which they "would have" achieved had they made the necessary changes during the course of the season.

Please make known your opinion on the banter board (unless someone calls for a secret ballot)

MessageProbably the best suggestion thus far from Phily. I could live with those suggestions.

MessageIn a keeper league you should always be looking to improve regardless of your situation... I don't think a bad team is any excuse for apathy. I have spent the last 2 years building from a few scraps what I believe will be a contender in a couple more years and it has been a blast. GM Terror has arguably the second best team in this league, there should be no excuses for his whining and disconnect.

Playoff pool will be added fun but it shouldn't be needed to make anyone more active in the current FHL.

My votes:
1. Shortened roster.
2. No drops.
3. No Draft.
4. Trades allowed but reversed after the playoffs. (This way if you like the flames and I like the Nucks we can trade my flames for your nucks, with no long term cost.)
5. No cash or $5.
6. Wild Card Bonus points for filling out a playoff bracket with winners and correct series length guesses?!?!)

MessageInteresting Fact - 3 of the last 6 owners of the NY Islanders are currenrly serving time in prison for fraud! What a quality organization.

MessageCONTINUED
-I like building a playoff team from the roster we have built. Perhaps we DON'T make moves after each round, or perhaps we reduce the number of players we use but I like the idea of using the core we've each built for the playoffs as well.

I don't think we can fault anyone for keeping their good players down to improve their lot in the draft...is that any worse than me trading healthy players for injured ones? I do that to improve NEXT year's roster at the expense of this years.

Anyway, we are becoming more and more apathetic because our teams are becoming less and less competitive.
I think the solution is other competitions throughout the season (playoff pool) or more opportuniites to even the playing field (5 redraft picks v. 3, bonus picks through the season for PLayer of the Montha awards/Rookie of the Month, etc.)

We shouldn't punish the person who's built a dynasty but we should find ways to keep it interesting.
Thoughts?

MessageThere are a few issues at play here -- the main one is apathy.
This is probably an inevitable byproduct of a draft structured such as ours -- after 9 years, there were bound to be growing disparities between teams...mainly, because some GM's are simply better than others. I think that's fine -- we SHOULD be rewarded for drafting well and building a strong team for the future.
It's up to the rest of us bottom-feeders to decide if we want to stay in the pool and try to rebuild, knowing it could take years to make that happen.
I, for one, am happy to do that. However, there isn't much incentive to be active, read the banter board, etc. in the mean time UNLESS we add some other competitions. For example, a playoff pool. Many people disagree with my suggestion to put money on the playoff pool because that pool is secondary and isn't important. My point is we MAKE it important. The amount of money doesn't matter - 5 bucks if fine -- but it's us deciding we want to compete in that pool as well. That way, there is a remote chance for the last place guys to have another shot (we may have mediocre guys on great teams, rather than vice versa). I would make trades to improve my playoff team, knowing these trades woudl stand through the next regular season. It adds another element of risk and smart management. (to me, there is no point making trades that will be scrapped...I'm not keen on doing a whole new pool for the playoffs either since -CONTINUED

MessageMy official statement is this...I am not tanking, I simply don't care anymore. I feel my team is between a rock and a hard place with no chance of winning in the near future, no chance of improving through trades and too long a road in rebuilding. I also believe in an all or nothing philosophy which means its all out or nothing at all. I don't have the ability to tread water like others. Put me last for the draft, I don't have a problem with that. Will it hurt me? Probably, but honestly, I just don't care right now. Sorry guys.
