MessageMy mother was born in Carbonear in 1915. She came
to Saint John,NB around 1935-36(I believe) and never had an opportunity to go back. It is interesting to read about this place. I hope to
to visit some day. I know it has changed since
she was there and the home has been torn down, but
still would like to see Carbonear.

MessageGreetings. It was so good to view your web site. Recently I came into possession of a video recording that my uncle made as he visited Carbonear, Flatrock, Freshwater and Blow Me Down Newfoundland. I understand that there are actually two areas in Newfoundland called Blow Me Down. The area that my family settled in when they first came over from England was Blow Me Down, which was located right near Carbonear and Flatrock and at the time was not occupied. My Grandfather Samuel Penney actually lived there with his Father (also, Samuel Penney) and my uncle documented on film, that only the foundations of their homes still remain. I would be very interested in any help that you could give me on who would be the best source of information on this old settlement that was occuppied by the Penney's and several of their cousins. My uncle has passed away and my family would like to pick up where he left off, looking at the possibility of building a summer home on this property. Any guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Steven Penney
