MessageI strongly agree with this issue, because as a college student it doesn't make any sense to still be getting paid minimum wage!! I mean it's almost a joke to be working for that amount in this era. Also, I'm doing a research paper on this issue so if anyone is up for an interview with me I would appreciate it. Just reply to me by the email above and I would be sure to get back with you.

MessageThis is long overdue for the citizens of North Carolina. Hopefully the legislators of this great state will support this for their citizens.

MessageAny truly civilized society, that cares about its people and believes in the potential of all its citizens, needs to find a way to insure that all its citizens can, by working one job, earn enough to cover the basic costs of housing, transportation, shelter, health insurance, childcare, and food. This is not happening in our nation today.

MessageI cannot imagine trying to live on the current minimum wage in this country. In 2003 I had the misfortune of losing my job and for a time had to live on unemployment benefits. I am single and have no dependent children, however, each one of those checks from UE benefits was guarded with my life. It was extremely difficult living off the maximum income allowed for unemployment and I found myself cutting back in every phase of my life to stretch that income. My benefits, however exceeded those of people who earn minimum wage and I still found it difficult.

I fully support the "One Dollar More" campaign and sincerely hope that we will one day get to a place where we realize and recognize the correlation between economic disparity and poverty in our society. I also hope that we will place more emphasis on helping to raise citizens of this country out of poverty through education and opportunity. I plan to do my share to educate more people about financial literacy and realizing economic opportunity in my community. I invite others to do the same.
