A raise in the minimum wage is a great idea, yet is it enough to cover the cost of families increased energy bills and gas prices? I mean, to buy a gallon of milk, you have to work one hour. Will $.85 make enough of a differnce?

There are too many people of all ages working 40+ hours/week who can't afford a place to live, a way to get to work, insurance, child care and food. These are the minimum needs of anyone. As long as minimum needs for a decent life aren't met by the system the ranks of those who seek other ways to get money will grow.
There might be a few businesses this will be a problem to. So what? Another 100 will be fine. The well-off never absorb increased costs out of their profit, so I'm not worried about them. The bottom line is people should be able to live if they work hard. Raising the minimum wage is the only way to make that happen.

It is way past due. Everyday the price of gas is going up, when that goes up so does everything else except wages. Fuel prices have nearly doubled if not doubled in the last 3 years but wages have remained flat.

Not only do we need to raise the minimum wage, but we need to make changes so that it's tied directly to real-world cost of living - guaranteeing that anyone that has a job will make enough for basic living expenses.
For many people, being underemployed has been worse than being unemployed - being unemployed allows for government assistance, while being underemployed often means that you make just enough that you become ineligible for public assistance.

Proud to support you in your petition for one dollar more in the minimum wage for North Carolina, however 5.00 more would be more adequate considering rising gas prices and the continually rising cost of living.

Lets not "So-Be-So" a wage that does not even bring the poorest out of the poorest of us..When this happens we have reduced the value of work and work ethic. We should be constructed of sterner stuff.
A living wage for all American workers makes for a stronger economy and benefits children as well as their parents working to provide for them. Let's back the dignity and worth of the North Carolina worker!
