MessageForget previous private message, that was me not knowing what I was doing ! Reference last from Andy Broad, another " Tom " that made it up the ladder was Joe Poraj-Wilcynski who enlisted as a private in 1968 as I was coming through P Coy from 1SWB. We served together in 12 Plt Patrol Coy for several years. I don't think he ever made L/Cpl, but in 1971 or '72 he passed the Officer selection Board and was commissioned into 1 or 2 Para. He stayed the course and ended up as Regimental Colonel !! Just shows what can be done !

MessageHad a beer very recently with Jim Chiswell who is to be promoted to Lt Colonel. Not many who come from the ranks get that. Only other one I recall in my time was Andy Gow. Great achievement Jim.

MessageTo all.
Regardless of the rumours from the 1 and 2 Para Clubs (!) the Reunion went ahead and was a great success. Numbers were down somewhat, I think, because of other Regimental events that have or are taking place this year but those that attended had a great weekend.
The Colonel Commandant, both the Battalion CO and RSM and importantly eight serving members of the Battalion were also in attendance together with the Colours.
All have told me how much they enjoyed it, particularly the soldiers.
For those who were unable to attend - General Peter Chiswell has handed over the post of President to General Sir Hew Pike. We must thank him for his support and enthusiasm for the Club over many years and welcome our new President.
George Duffus has also stood down as Vice-Chairman to be replaced by Laurie Ashbridge and likewise Gary Teale has stood down as Secretary to be replaced by Ray Larkin. These two have been true stalwarts of the Club and will be greatly missed.
It was voted in, at the AGM, that the Club returns to the Imperial Hotel next year - I have already booked the weekend 20-22 March.
Long time ahead but hope to see LOADS of you there!
Regards to all

MessageI am pleased to report that George Duffus visited Roger Chilton in the Care Home yesterday.
Ray Raison the PRA Secretary plans a visit next week on his way to the NMA.
It has taken a while but we got there in the end, hopefully Roger will get regular PRA / Regimental visits in the future.
Regards to all

MessageUp date on the Roger Chilton saga. At long last thanks to the patience and sheer dogged determination of JJ Wilson, a visit has been arraigned for Major Raison (3 Para vets officer) to visit Roger in early March, at the care home in Birmingham. A result that no only pleases me, but will no doubt come as a relief to Johns wife, who can now supervise him properly in the painting and decorating, without me interrupting all the while. On behalf of Roger, thanks John.
