MessageJohn McCormack,I was with Pete Marshall, whe he was washed off and drowned at Sennen Cove in Cornwall,we were crossing a shallow gulley to gain access to a rock platform at the bottom of the climbing area,a party of four,I crossed first the other two guys followed with no problem, Pete was last,he was virtually across, when a freak wave hit him,he managed to hold on ,then another big wave hit,he was gone, saw him for a split second, had the rope undone ready to throw or go in after him, never saw him again, sea conditions were fairly calm,as I was on a cliff leader course with Marines,I had crossed that gully dozens o' times,in a lot worse conditions, without incident, just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time,It could have been anyone of the four of us,still haunts me to this day that we were unable to do anything.

Jim

MessageHi John Yes I remember the RAF guy suffering from heat exhaustion, it was 140 degrees. Us spogs dressed only in shorts were acclimatising in the belly of Sir Lancelot which was being hosed down for a nuclear exercise.

MessageIf you Goggle Yas Island and then look at Sir Bani Yas Island article it mentions that the Island was used by British Forces for training.
