MessageHi NICK,
Thanks for your comment. Mcbirney and myself argued for ages as who should keep the letter from Judith Durham of the SEEKERS. In the end he kept it.
I'm sure it's Sammy Doc in the photograph of us jumping from a Beverly into Jesselton (Now Koto kinabulu) during our time in Borneo. I remember it was only days before we were due to fly home at the end of our tour. The DZ was very small with a bloody great river alongside.We jumped sim fours. The photograph is on the 216 site on page 3 of the places and groups section. (Anyone confirm) Keep well Sammy.
I have a old mate from 216 staying with me for Christmas. He spent 15 yrs with 22 after leaving 216 and a couple of years ago spent some
e time in Oz with Pete Thornton. He was surprised you knew he was from the Ise of Mann. as not many did.
Have a Good New Year
Chris

MessageDon't forget Perky who was the other half of Pinky and Perky. I wonder who deciphered all the signatures for tools from the tool tent when we were building Hamala. Doug Rodgers as a carpenter surely it wasn't you who wandered around with the same piece of 4x2 for about six months.
Chris you are well remembered from Borneo and tell the rest of the 216 lads that the seekers didn't age too well. Also remind 216 that Pete Thornton from the isle of man was with us in SASR in Oz he was with 152 Sig Sqn. (R.I.P.)
Nick.

Messageto all serving and non serving members of the third battalion.A happy christmas to all.

The Troops

O my brave brown companions,When your souls
Flock silently away,and the eyeless dead
Shame the wild beast of battle on the ridge,
Death will stand greiving in that field of war
since your unvanquished hardihood is spent,
And through some mooned valhalla there will pass
battalions,and battalions,scarred from hell;
The unreturning army that was youth;
The legions who suffered and are dust.
siegfried sassoon

To the boys that never came home

MessageFor those ( and there are many) who know him, Sammy Docherty suffered a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. He is currently at home recovering, and typically in great spirits.
His aim is to be fully recovered by March & make it to Blackpool!

MessageDoug,
Didn't see Abu Dhabi but Dubai was a smelly little place all right.
Re the first tour......I joined the Battalion (after 2 years in Depot - Tom Duffy's batman !! - at the end of January '62. Did one Op Rolex exercise and laboured at Hamala till at least April and even then my mate Tom Dooley (B Coy arms storeman) was complaining that I got back to Blighty before him. I've no doubt others will have the exact dates.........
On the subject of labouring at Hamala, do you remember "Pinky"?
