MessageGina,
Where do you get the idea that God is standing idle while evil thrives? We are in the middle of a universe wide war between good and evil, and He is the commander-in-chief of the good guys. He is active when we sleep. He is active when we are idle. When we weep, He weeps. When we hurt, He hurts. We are being sucked down into eternity in hell and the Lord hung on a cross and died to save us from that fate. That is not idle indifference. God is good.

Message"Would it be right and proper for them to act accordingly, just because it is natural? Are they not supposed to exercise some restraint in this area? What about those people attracted to animals or children? It seems natural to them. Should they be restrained in this area? Why or why not? "

YOu got me on this one and also made me cringe. I'm not saying it isn't wrong, but what if the Bible isn't true. And you are misunderstanding me....I'm NOT arguing whether it is true or not. I'm saying that I have a hard time with it. I can totally concede that it may be true and that I could be wrong, but so could you.

MessagePappy, right around the time Christianity supposedly came into play (around the 1st century), there were other relgions; Egyptian, Greek and Roman and than the Roman empire adopted Christianity. Prior to that they were a polytheistic religion. They can account for their religion to, but Christians said NO WAY, your way is evil and ridiculous. So, is it not anymore ridiculous to say there were angels and a devil and all the other stuff that the Bible says that seem really out of reach? I believe this man existed (Jesus). But just as the other people were trying to explain the world around them, so might have been the Christians. Science says our earth is well over 4 billion years old. The Bible is....what was that number you said 1600 years? That a lot of difference in time.

MessageGina,
Anti-gay? Hmmm. What does that mean? I don't know what that means. Even if I did, it is beside the point. If there is a God and the Bible is His word, He says homosexual behavior is wrong. (By the way He also says gossip is wrong. How do you feel about that?) Let's not get the cart before the horse, though. You don't approve of God saying it is wrong so God does not exist and the Bible is wrong? That suggests that you consider yourself the final arbiter of what is and is not right and wrong. Surely not. How do you decide what is right and wrong? How do you know there is nothing wrong with homosexuality? Almost every man on the planet is naturally attracted to any good looking woman. Would it be right and proper for them to act accordingly, just because it is natural? Are they not supposed to exercise some restraint in this area? What about those people attracted to animals or children? It seems natural to them. Should they be restrained in this area? Why or why not?

MessageYou are so right, that we always must seek the truth, ALWAYS. We always must keep learning and being Open, which you call that unsure, but that doesn't mean I stop learning. I'm not closed off to Christianity or God.

MessageGina,
My posts may not match yours because you are copying and pasting way faster than I can type.

All men are faulty. That does not mean their testimony is worthless. You believe people about other matters, why not this? God can not send commendable people to spread His word because none of us is commendable.

It is not commendablity that should be the criteria for determining credibility. Is the testimony consistent with itself and other known reality? Does the witness have a reason to lie about this topic? What do the other witnesses say? Does this witness have a reputation for telling lies of this kind?

MessageMy thought while reading that was was “Evil can’t happen without knowing it and this God allows this stuff to happen? Why in the world does anyone want to be a part of this? If yes, we have our own free will, I do not see it as free will for people to choose their loved ones to die in war, famine, diseases or other atrocities. No one would choose this life. And then I think even further on that and it’s all because he gave his son to die for us so therefore millions of our sons/daughters/other loved ones, may die for him? (Speaking when people die untimely) Then I think, wow, if there is a God, I really want no part of this because he doesn’t seem very loving to me and surely it isn’t unconditional; there are many conditions. Repenting seems to me to be a sorry way to commit a horrible act and then clear your conscience. So, I have a really hard time swallowing religion.
Maybe I just think to much, but regardless, it's hard for me to put my faith in something when there is no actual proof that it exist. Frankly, I don't care when or how the earth was made. I'm just glad that it was made. And I'm glad to be alive and breathing and able to watch my children grow. And hopefully, I'll never feel tragedy ever again. Death is a part of life and I'm okay with that, but what I am not okay with is "IF, there is a God, and he stands idle while the world falls a part and people die horrible deaths, well I'm not sure I'd want to be a part of that.

MessageWithout question our perspective and life experiences have a huge impact on our perception of reality. That is why there are so many opinions out there. However, that has no impact on reality. Something is true. We are like the proverbial story of the blind men and the elephant. The one who felt the tail thought the elephant was a rope, the one who got the trunk, a hose, the leg, a tree trunk, the side, a wall, etc. It also does not mean we should abandon the search for the truth. Maybe it does not matter, but it may matter a great deal. Until we know what is true, we can not be sure. It is only by communicating and comparing observations that we can begin to get a picture of realitiy as it truly is. The Bible represents the testimony of over forty people who met the same Spirit over a period of 1,600 years. That should not be dismissed out of hand. What contradictions?

MessageThen I have a problem with Christianity being antigay, disgracing these people as sinful. I can’t speak from experience because I am not gay, but I can’t imagine not being allowed to be who I am. I can’t imagine with all the medical evidence to back this up, that one can still say this is ethically right to deny these people who they are or shame them for something that is natural to them, A flaw in their genetic make up, if you will, where chemical/hormonal imbalances, paired with brain size (male being more like female, female being more like male) has led them to be “sinful”? What kind of God would purposefully give someone DNA and then condemns them to hell. Why bother making a people, if all you want to do is watch them suffer and everyone suffers, some more than others, but no doubt everyone does at some point in there life and to me this is just part of life. And if there is a God and I hate quoting people to validate my point because their opinion is just as opinionated as mine, but Benjamin Franklin said “"I have lived, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth -- that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?" Now, I can't suggest what Ben Franklin was meaning here although it has been suggested he was talking about God in Government being a no brainer........
