MessageDon Martin helped me not only to learn how to communicate and to get my first job at KIOT Radio, in Barstow, it provided me with the confidence I needed to continue my education. I am convinced I would never have returned to college to get a B.A. in English it it were not for the teachers at Don Martin, particularly Mr. James Fitch, who taught us diacritics, an important tool not only as a key to pronunciation, but a ticket to building a working vocabulary that all graduates needed to work successfully in the radio and television industries. All of the teachers were highly professional. Thank you all. I'd like also to connect with Bud Rueben who used to live in Burbank and whom I believe now is an NBC cameraman at KNBC, in Burbank. Hello also to jeff Crawford and my other classmates, and to teacher Don Hills. I live now in Atascadero, just north of San Luis Obispo. My telephone number is 805 461 9637.

MessageBoy this made my day, as a young fellow of 19 and being bitten by the Radio Bug I found the DM school.

This was 1952 and I had a lot to learn, had a lot of fun doing so. Worked as consultant for several Broadcasting stations, AM/FM/TV.

I owe much to the Martin folks that I had forgot about. Thanks again..

Wound up the career in R&D in the Aero Space programs in Fl.

MessageBlast from the past. I attended the Don Martin School back in 1976/77 when it was located across from the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. I remember looking out the window in May 77 and seeing the Star Wars premiere - who knew what that would turn out to be back then. I got my first job in radio from Don Martin School up in Northern California at KDAC Radio. My first day on air was August 16 1977, and the first thing I had to do was announce that Elvis died. Left radio after a year or so and got into film and TV. Been producing, writing, directing ever since. Took a thre year break in the career to travel around the world from 92-95, and while in Bodrum Turkey I DJ'd a few months at Radio Eco. What I remember most about radio is that they paid me to do what love - listen to music!

MessageHello all, I have been trying to find out more about the early activities of Arthur Crawford. I am a loudspeaker collector and have some fascinating loudspeakers built by him about 1940. They used components produced by Lansing Manufacturing Company, but the usual Lansing badges were replaced with ones that say "Crawfords of Beverly Hills." Mr. Crawford is also credited with suggesting the idea of a coaxial loudspeaker unit to Altec Lansing, who subsequently built the famous 604 Duplex. I have also seen numerous 1950s Altec speakers labeled "Crawfords Dimensitone." If anyone would like to see pictures of these speakers or can shed some light on Mr. Crawford's early days, please contact me at stfrsc*juno*com (please sub. @ and .).

MessageHello fellow alumni! Here are my recollections as a student.

After graduating high school, I heard about Don Martin at a vocational fair. I enrolled for the 69-70 term. I wanted to become a TV studio camerman.

Still reeling from the cancellation of "Star Trek," DMS became my "Enterprise." Ron Pitts was "Kirk," Dave Hadley was "Scotty," and Ivan Parry fit the bill as "Spock." Howard Townsend became "Gene Roddenberry." The closest I could place Betty Mears Wainwright was the "Horta," but she taught me a lot about writing scripts with continuity.

I enjoyed the round-robin job assignments which gave everyone a chance to be talent and technician. I got pretty good at aligning those 50's orthicon cameras and the film chain.

Meeting people from Korea, Thailand, and Persia (Iran) was a new experience. I still remember Boonshi Seripakisupe. Just the name, not the student.

Placement was in the contract, but my draft status spoiled my chances for a station job, so Ivan recommended me for an interim staff job teaching Theory. That job lasted eleven years!
