MessageI have so many memories of going to the "All Night Hymn Sings" with my Mother and Father and siblings. My mother, Gladys McIntire, grew up with James and siblings in Chester, MS. We always would go back and talk with the Blackwood Brothers, at least Mother and Dad would, when we went to the Hymn Sings, and it made me feel famous that my Mother had grown up with them. I still love to hear his music, as it was always playing on the stereo at our home when growing up. You have quite a legacy - such a Great Christian Man, he was.

MessageI believe James and my sister shared the same birth date. At a location near Springfield IL, the Blackwood Brothers were performing and someone brought a birthday cake to James. He asked my sister to cut it during the intermission for anyone who wanted a piece of the cake. I have used this illustration many times as my version of the 5 loaves of bread feeding the crowd who came to hear Jesus.

I have heard James many times, and my daughter attended the Blackwood School of Music one year. He was truly a great Christian and the greatest evangelist/Gospel singer of my time.

MessageEven though I am so late in wishing my condolence
to the family of James Blackwood. Jimmy and Billy
are doing a great job of keeping the Gospel Music
alive. Most churches are going with the contempory music. I just want to say their is a
place for the modern praise and worship songs, but
it's the Gospel Music that will touch and break the heart of the unsaved. Only the born again
Christian can understand the praise and worship
songs and their have a place in the worship service. But in order to reach the unsaved (which
is our goal in life,) then the Gospel is the type
that will touch the unsaved. Gospel even still
touches the heart of the Christian because we can
remember when "He Touched Me," "Just as I am,"
"Amazing Grace," and so very many more. I was at
home listening to a new CD I bought that day and
was listening to Glen Payne begin to sing "We Shall See Jesus" when the Holy Spirit touched me
and changed my life completely. Oh I had prayed
the sinner's prayer many years ago, but I received
The Holy Spirit through the song "We Shall See
Jesus." James is really missed.

MessageIt was a wonderful blessing to grow up with
James Blackwood and the Blackwood Brothers. My father was a Southern Gospel music producer and promoter from the mid 60's thru the 80's.

Being around The Blackwoods, The Stamps, and many more was a great treat. Their music will live long and be a blessing for generations too come.

Elvis Presley and the Presley family were great friends how loved the above named quartets.

God Bless You till we meet agian,

Byron
