MessageI always enjoyed listening to the Blackwood Brothers. Their songs made a lasting impression on my heart. It is a shame that we don't see these
great tributes today.

God Bless you James.

Message03/13/2010 I was saddened to learn of James passing. He was truly one of the BEST. I was able to see him in MICHIGAN in approximately 1975, I believe I saw them in Saginaw, MI, the first time and then in Marshall, MI a second time. James was GREAT and as I remember there was always a message of salvation at some point in their singing. He truly blessed so many people. I will never forget him and his quartet -James, Jimmy, Ken Turner, Cecil, Pat Hoffmaster and pianist Tommy Fairchild.
James' family can KNOW that he was a very special person of God.
in Christ love, Nancy Cowles now living in CA.

MessageWhat a fantastic voice, Christian, and fine Southern gentleman! I consider James Blackwood to have had the best tenor voice in the world. How I look forward to hearing him in Heaven! God bless your family.

MessageI have very fond memories of James Blackwood, the Blackwood Quartet, and all the quartets that used to come to Sioux City, Iowa for Quartet Conventions. My dad, W. H. Gaston, who passed away one month after James, was in a local quartet called the Royalairs, and would be one of the groups that would start out the evening. I was a young girl and would always get everyone' autograph. Now as a mother and grandmother, I continue with the gift that God's has so graciously given me in music and sing and play keyboards at our church. I just wanted to thank the Blackwood family for putting up this site and continuing the legacy that the Blackwood's have provided in giving glory to our Father God through music.

MessageWhat a great singer and minister this man was. Gospel music lost a legend when James Blackwood passed on. Everyone will always remember his signing, "I'll Meet You in the Morning." Now, he's on the "other side!"

MessageJames was a true gentleman. I was a little boy in Lakeland Florida when James hired JD and made us proud. There never has been or ever will be a gentleman is gospel music than can sing or act like James did. He was the epitome of class. I sing bass becaus of James and JD. James raised two of the finest Christian men I have ever been in contact with. James sang in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where I live and left his mark on gospel music. James knew how it was supposed to sound and he paved the way for every young person singing gospel music now or forever. If Jimmy or Billy were to ever come close to Murfreesboro, I would love to see them. Also admiration must be sent to James wife, who stood behind James. I never will forget talking to her at the Grand Ole Gospel reunion in Greenville SC. What a great support she was to James and her children. There must be an extra star in her crown. Thank you Mrs Blackwood. As JD would say, I cant wait to see James again.

MessageEnjoyed the music of the Blackwood Brothers Quartet every Sunday morning while getting ready to attend
Sunday school and church. Never missed a Sunday.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and I have a copy of the Hymnal compiled by James Blackwood, Songs of Faith
and Hope. I love it and use it often for my offeratory songs.
May God comfort you and bless the entire family, James and the entire group will be missed, but have left us an unprecedented gospel collection.
