MessageI have just found that my 3xgreatgran Sarah Bentley was born in Nonnington in 1795. She was daughter of Edward & Mary. Sarah married Henry Wall and lived in Sandwich where she was local midwife. I would love to know if there are any Bentley or Wall descendants out there. I will be visiting this village as soon as I can to look for graves in the churchyard. In the meantime I will look at the website with interest.

MessageOh! what a fantastic picture of Nonington early on a misty morning. It brought back such wonderful memories for my husband and I. We attended Nonington College from 1979-1982 and remember that view so clearly. I lived in "Old Court" and old house owned by the college where a select few were housed for the year and then I moved into the college for my second year. My sister Mandy also attended the college and as many of your visitors to the web the village and college helped shape us into the people we are today. I was also lucky to fall head over heals in love there and married Simon Samsworth years later and we now have two beautiful girls (11 and 13)are we are both still in education in Oakville Ontario. I agree with the previous entries re the college it would be lovely to have an area on the web devoted to the college so the students could give feedback to the village/college on how vital a part it played in developing all of us who were privileged enough to attend such a wonderful educational estabilishment. We get back to the U.K. each summer as Simon's parents live in Herne Bay and have visited the college...what a shame it was sold it would have made an ideal conference and spa resort!Such is life.
Cheers smilie

MessageI was at Nonington College from 1982 - 1985, and I look back on it with enormous pleasure - when I think I could have ended up in some faceless city university and been none the wiser! I loved the lanes and fields, I loved the history of the big house, and I've been back, regular as clockwork, to Kent - Thanet, Canterbury, Sandwich, Dover - ever since. Nonington seems so much the same as I remember it, unlike just about every other place I remember with fondness, that has since been ruined by roads or new estates. I've had a twenty-five-year love-affair with Kent, thanks to Nonington. Long may it continue.

MessageWhat a wonderful web-site.I came across it because I have a friend who lives in Nonington. She attended the P.E. college in the '60s and I can see now why she decided to make the village her home. My best wishes to all of you involved in producing the site.

MessageI love this site! I was taking a little trip down memory lane, and was actually surprised to stumble across such a great information site. It makes Nonington seem so much bigger than the little village I remember. I have great memories of the pantomimes, and the village fetes; as well as the people. I just want to say hi to all fellow classmates from Nonington Primary School, 1986-1992 smilie

Message21 years ago I was the itinerant
vicar of Nonington when my family and I spent the summer of 1987 among you. I presided over Sunday worship at Nonington, Wymonswold, Chillenden, Goodneston and Knowlton; officiated several weddings and funerals and visited the elderly and infirm.

The wonderful people I met still live vividly in my heart, as do the mental images of the lovely Kent countryside bathed in the golden light of an August afternoon.

Blessings to you all... The Rev. Kent McCulloch (retired)

MessageI went for an interview at Nonington College in 1983. It was a wonderful place and I spent a night there and then a full day for the interview. All the students were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunately I didn't take up the place deciding to do Engineering instead! Very sad to hear that the college is no more.

MessageHello again! Its been a long time, but I haven't forgotten you. I read the Magazine from cover to cover and wish I was still a part of it all. David & I are well, and spend much of our time with Dominic, our almost 6 years old grandson - hard work but fun. Heather lives in Maidstone and has 6yrs. old, Grace and 3yrs. old Joseph. We visit as much as possible, but it's a long drive and we have to work around Dom's mum's working hours.
Please pass on to all at the Baptist Chapel that the 'Rambling Rector' Rose which I bought with their leaving gift to me, is a wonderful sight today. It is a mass of white flowers covering all but the door of the shed, and reaches some 35ft. up into a huge holly tree which is behind the shed! Anyway this retired Rector must ramble no longer - My love to you all , and God's blessing be upon you all. I shall try hard to get to see you some day. Valerie Perry

MessageMy Grandfather and Grandmother lived and died in Nonington. They were Charles Frederick Chapman and his wife Kate. Charles died at Yew Tree Cottage. He was born in 1878 and his funeral announcement states he was buried in Nonington Cemetary age 73. In about 1951. Im now in my 60s and can just remember visiting him when I was 6 or 7. Today me and the wife decided to visit his grave. A bit of a shock, the graveyard is so overgrown, all we ended up with was wet trousers. I suppose we should have found out exactly where he is buried. Any how, we had a most enjoyable day driving around the area and had a very nice lunch at the Royal Oak. The crux is, can anyone help me to find out wher Charles is in the graveyard. I would like to tidy up his grave and arrange for it to be looked after. Many thanks to Mrs Kahawatte for her help today

MessageWonderful site!
We so enjoyed visiting Nonington with my 85 yr old mum , looking unsuccessfully for signs of the Garlinge family (Frederick, who drove a truck, Louise etc), who were here in 1928 when she stayed a summer from India.
Shown in 1901 census as being at 57 Church St, which is no more!
Jen kindly helped us!
