Thank you for visiting my guest book. Thanks to those who have signed it, stating who you're looking for, and about your roots. Do you know the province or area in Poland your family was from? Did your relatives immigrate to America, another country, or is your family still in Poland? I love hearing other people's stories. I find it inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Julie

Note:  In the blog title section, under "pages" there is now a "blog title surname index" page. This index I created is for names you write about. If you would like your guestbook post to be a blog post, let me know and I'd be happy to share your story.

MessageIn addition to wanting to find Wandzel relatives, we've wanted to find a Wandzel to ask about Bessie. Adam Sanetra and Rozalia Wandzel had a daughter Bronislawa "Bessie" Sanetra born 13 Jun 1901. Rozalia and Adam were told they couldn't take Bessie with them, only 2 could leave at a time. She was left with Rozalie's family and they expected she would come in 3 months. But she was not able to come until 19 Feb 1911. She immigrated with a Marianna Wojtas. Klosak was her maiden name, and she was listed on Ellis island as Bessie's aunt. Bessie never found the family, so she went up to Minneapolis where Marrianna and her husband Jozef Wojtas lived. Our family to this day doesn't know any more about her except one thing: Adam was denied citizenship and went back to Poland. He came back in 13 Jun 1923 to look for the children lost by the orphanage and Bessie. He somehow found Bessie, and saw her for one afternoon. He asked her to come with him to Poland. She said she couldn't she was married now. So Adam went back sad, and wouldn't talk about it. When his sister Maria asked him about it, that was his answer. Maria's daughter wrote us about this in the 1960's. Adam died 1927. No family in Poland (that we know of) or the US has seen Bessie since 1911. Her younger siblings never saw her. And her mother Rozalia never saw her past the age of 3. For almost 100 years now our family has wanted to find Bessie and her family. We also wish to know how Marianna Klosak was related. MessageHi Andrew,
You are the first person with the name Wandzel that I've seen besides my family. So I am very thankful you found me! If you are from Zywiec, with a name I have only seen with my family, there probably has to be a connection. We'll have to find out!

This is the Wandzels I know of:
Wojciech Wandzel was married to Anna Byrda, and they had a son named Wawrzyniec Wandzel born 1847 in Zywiec. Wawrzyniec married Regina Zulawska 5 Jun 1872. Wawrzyniec & Regina had the following children:
1) Karol Wandzel born 21 Oct 1873, died 27 Jun 1874.
2) Anna Wandzel born 9 Jan 1875. Don't know who she married or how long she lived.
3) Rozalia Wandzel born 30 Jun 1877, died 31 Mar 1878.
4) Helena Wandzel born 9 Feb 1879. Don't know who she married or how long she lived.
5) Michal Wandzel born 19 Aug 1881. Married Rozalia Klosak 5 Feb 1907.
6) Wojciech Wandzel born 27 Mar 1884, died 29 Jul 1884.
7) Rozalia Wandzel (my great, great grandma) born 17 Aug 1885. Married Adam Sanetra 5 Feb 1900. Immigrated to the USA 5 Feb 1904, & settled in Chicago. She died from the flu epidemic 13 Oct 1918.

Not sure if you could be from Michal's family? Also the Wawrzyniec Wandzel who married Regina Zulawska, he had to have a number of siblings, but I don't know any of them.

MessageHi Jane,
Thanks for telling me about another Anna Mazurkiewicz, and thank you for giving me another possible spelling to look for in searches. This is the same time period as my family. I will definitely keep her in mind. It is great to know someone by their maiden & married name. Thanks for posting about the Mazurkriewicz, Skochinski, Anyszewski, and Pilarski families including Sister Mariam Rose.

MessageHi David,
Thanks for signing my guestbook. I know someone with your surname Piecuch, I will ask her if she knows of your family. Thank you for telling the name before & after name change.

I have had a little luck with parish records in Zywiec. They are ledger style. And you get parents names & grandparents, so they are wonderful! In 1960, my grandfather wrote to Zywiec requesting copies of some parish records & sending donations to help rebuild the church from after war. In 2004, my grandparents paid a genealogist to go to Poland, & he went to two churches in Zywiec. So I have a copy of a partial page, sometimes a whole page for each ancestor for baptismal & marriage dates. If you look at my blog, those two churches on the left column are where my family's records are kept.

I have one Piecuch family in my tree in Zywiec. Jan Piecuch married Katarzyna Nalborczyk. They had a child Piotr Piecuch born 1905 that married Helena Kozka. My connection to this family is this: Piotr Piecuch was son-in-law of Katarzyna Sanetra, Adam Sanetra's sister.

Feel free to email me your Piecuch names & I will ask my friend.

MessageHi. Look on Google and found your blog. I am not sure this would make any difference to you, but My greatgrandfather married a woman named Anna Mazurkrewicz. His name was Josef Skochinski (Skoczynski) They had five children:
John (b 1874)
Mary (b 1875) m Frank Anyszewski
Frank (B 1876
William
Antonina (Nettie)

Anyway she died around 1891, and Josef moved to Minneapolis MN and married my greatgrandmother, Anna Pilarski. I think some of the children from his first marriage were also in Minnesota. I was in touch with a daughter of Mary, Sister Mariam Rose, before she died and she gave me all this info. this anna had one brother, Albert, and one sister.

Not sure if this means anything to you or not, good luck on your search.

MessageGreat blog. I too am finding my ancestors came from Zywiec, Poland around 1905 to Minneapolis (part of Galacia, Austria at the time). Most stayed in MN, but some moved to Chicago and the San Francisco area. Their name in Polish was Peicuch, but they changed it to Petsolt when they became citizens - not sure why, but the whole family changed from the 1910 to 1920 census.

I was wondering if you had any luck with Parish records in Zywiec - from what I can tell, that is the next place I need to dig - Ancestry.com can't give me much more (here is the tree I have created so far: wouldn't let me post link - email me if you are curious).

It appears that Zywiec is a pretty small town, so I am hoping I may be able to find something. The worst part is that I was in Krakow 10 years ago, but didn't know to visit there at the time. Oops. Not sure when I may be able to get back.

Anyway, keep up the good search!

MessageHi Susan,
You are right, Drechny is not a common name. This was the only Drechny family I found so far in Chicago. I will look more for John and email you privately. Do you know Mary's maiden name? John & Mary's children's names? (for matching on the 1930 Census) And an approximate birth date for John? Was it 1889 like the John I posted about? Stanislaus was the only birth record I've been able to find so far. Since I know you are a Drechny, I will check Chicago City Directories & Census maps for you too. If you do not already have them on the Census.

I know it was along time ago, in the 1930's, but do you know if anyone in your family has heard about Kwiatkowski or Janik or Sanetra or Mazurkiewicz? Peter Drechny would've lived with them at 1058 Marshfield the last few years of his life. And he would've lived only about two blocks away from them with Valeria/Viola for several years. You'll hear more from me soon. Thanks, Julie smilie
