Thank you for visiting my guest book. Thanks to those who have signed it, stating who you're looking for, and about your roots. Do you know the province or area in Poland your family was from? Did your relatives immigrate to America, another country, or is your family still in Poland? I love hearing other people's stories. I find it inspiring. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Julie

Note:  In the blog title section, under "pages" there is now a "blog title surname index" page. This index I created is for names you write about. If you would like your guestbook post to be a blog post, let me know and I'd be happy to share your story.

MessageGreetings from Canada.Thank you for creating a wonderful site.

Searching for info on (maternal) grandparents ,or further back.Polish/Slovakian border areas.

Surname Włoch (or similar spellings)...likely related to Vlach migrants from Slovakia/Romania/Hungary, 1600s ?

Best Wishes
Stan S.

MessageHi Anne,
Thanks! I think you're right about Dunning. I heard for awhile TB hospitals & mental hospitals were together. I'll see if I can find a phone number to call and confirm the record.
I checked the comments and they're still "on", in the blog. And I tried to comment & was able to. Sorry there was a glitch when you were trying to post a comment.
Thanks, Julie smilie

MessageHello Diane,
Thank you for telling about your family.
So do you have Joseph or his wife on a ship registry or Ellis Island? If not I'll help you look. If you had the Ellis Island record, it might say his wife's name, if he traveled to The States first. I have seen Lach's in my parish in Zablocie-Zywiec. An I have seen a number of Lach's go to Pennsylvania on Ellis Island. I know of one Anna Lach, but she immigrated in 1911 from Zywiec & went to Pennsylvania. And you said you had them on the 1910 Census.
The only picture of a Lach I have seen, is the passport record/picture (on Ancestry.com)for Micheal Lach in Somerset, PA. If you'd like to see that, email me & I'll send it to you.

MessageHello Juanita,
Thank you for telling about your family. I just did a search on wiki place names & on the PGSA Gazateer database & just a straight Google search & it's saying no such place as Pinicorn exists. I wonder what they meant? Did you try to scroll through the other people on the ship to see if a similar name is written? A lot of times people traveled together with others from their village. My guess would be an old name for a village near Warsaw since you said Emilia was from Warsaw. Have you seen them on the Hamburg Ship registry on Ancestry.com? I was just reading this week that the Hamburg registry lists their town of origin (birth or where family records were kept) wheras Ellis Island asked for last place of living. I will keep my eyes open for your family names. You're welcome to email me.

MessageMy paternal grandfather Joseph Szalankiewicz first wife last name was Lach (or Loch). They lived in Scottdale, Pa. in western Pa. She died in October 1918. They had 4 kids there. On his marriage app. with my grandmother his writes her name as Mary Szalankiewicz but other people in the family say her name was Anna or Katyrna. I have tried to find info on her but cannot. Her mother's first name could have been Eva or Eva could be a abbreviated form of another Polish given name. I have a little more info from a census in 1910. What I am really trying to find is more info on my grandfather from the Lach ancestors such as a picture, etc. Thank you, Diane

MessageLoved reading your entry. i've been searching for my ancestors as well. Looks like you've made great progress. My grandmother Emelia (Mildred Bukowski Karpinski was born in Warsaw and left for this country in 1901 from Zywiec. She was married to Francis (Fraanz) Karpinski who left for this country in 1900 at the age of 29. On the ship's manifest it lists his last address as Pinicorn, but I have been unable to locate that place.Any help or info you could give me would be much appreciated.

MessageJulie,

I tried to post a comment relating to the Agnes Sanetra Death Certificate...but it wouldn't let me for some reason. So I'm posting here... I think the cemetery is Dunning...attached to a county poorhouse & mental hospital. Check it out at Graveyards.com...Dunning cemetery in Cook county, IL.

Makes sense where everything was filled in by the county & she died of Tuberculosis. What do you think?
