MessageThanks for the site Dennis, it brings back many fond memories of my life and times at Post Office Telecoms/BT, 1975-2004 and the life long mates I made.
Based at several TEC around Newcastle/Tyne,I started as a T2B construction jointer then T2A faults man jointer and finally a TO in External Planning having got my "tickets".

I am told the job is not the same now, I . "took my bit", in 2004, seems we enjoyed the halcyon days, courses at Otley, Harrogate, Shirley, Stone.

Your web site describes every TEC and experience anywhere in the UK.

Thanks mate.
Dave

MessageIt's all so clear... I started as a TT(A) on 28/Aug/80 in BT International, after getting my T2A in 1983, based in L/INT/S Stag Lane Repeater Station. Moved to BT London Region/SW Area as an OMI based at Mortlake TE until I got too soggy to climb poles and wanted a job back inside in BTI at L/INT/M Mondial House; joined the Micro Computer Maintenance team in 1990 at Shop 8, Cardinal House and eventually was TUPE'd into Computacenter in 2002.
When I became an OMI at Mortlake, I signed the paperwork and the guvnor (AEE)said "let's go stock up your van." "Van?", I said. "I can't drive a car". He said "you said you had a full licence". I pointed out I had a full MOTORCYCLE licence.
Happy days!

MessageHi Dennis, I've been married to Jean Andrews for 40 years. She was born at 56 Shore Street in 1950 followed by sisters Ronnie (1953) and Edda (1962) daughters of Rowan and Laura. Jean & Ronnie, who's visiting us, are amazed at the number of familiar names that have been posted to your excellent site. Uncle Herbie and Aunt May Andrews lived opposite your house in Irish Street and then moved into the new development where your house was. The Andrews family still own the site. Jean's great grandmother was Mary Jane Hanna (born c.1875) daughter of Edward Hanna (born c.1821) but she doesn't believe that you are related - unless you know different.

I started as an OMI (One Man Installer) at Maltravers Road in Aug 73 and remember the place and the characters exactly as you described. I learned the trade from a guy called George Morris who also didn't give a dam about management or procedures. I remember Frankie Bough, Reg Dingley, Keith Chappell, Brian Beal, Mick Frost and others. Happy days. smilie
