just had a look at your web site
found it very entertaining.
i was born in killyleagh in 58 and grew up there.
moved to melbourne 3 years ago....big jj(jeffrey-jeronimo)hanna is a mate of mine and lives close by.my mother would have grown up with all your ones.... she is jean(nee)duffy from shrigley and still lives there.
jj and myself often talk about things from the old days in killyleagh....do you remember any of the old shops?.....annie caugheys john fitzsimons paper shop...martha edgars....fred hamiltons...redmond denvirs(deadman renvir)...he could reach everything behind the counter from the stool he sat on.

funniest story from those days......joker morrison walking through the town one afternoon...bumps into the reverend boggs....the reverend says "drunk today again joker?"........quick as a flash joker retorts...."so am i reverend...so am i".....
slan leat ...gavan

"so am i reverend...so am i"

MessageHi Dennis, Great site.Brought back lots of memories for me. I spent 2 weeks every July in Shrigley every year in the late 40's early 50's with the Morgans who lived in Short Row not far from the famous clock. They were relations of mine. We walked the mile into Killyleagh and back just to spend time at the harbour.and i enjoyed every minute of my stay there.I always cried when i had to go back to Belfast...oh happy days!Have promised myself for years to visit again..maybe this year ..who knows. But i would dearly love to find the morgans again. Many thanks for the nostalgia and praises for your site its wonderful well done.

MessageI well remember changing a a tyre on the Commer `Two Man Circus` van. It was two years old and done. As we raised the jack, the bodywork crumbled under the weight of...?...two ladders and a dispenser. What a heap of shite!
LGB385P reg? I think.

MessageHi,
I worked for British Telecom from 1973 to 1975 as a Jointer (Maintenance & Construction)as a T11A, in Middlesbrough (Lytton Street). It was the best job I have ever (except the money). The lads & the courses were great fun. I have great memories of working with people such as Geoff Paley (2 bottles of Brown Ale for breakfast in Ferry Hill). Geoff Bush (My Best Man), a clown like myself. When working on a 'non interrupt change over' in Thornaby Mr Paley really set his stall out to make our working environment comfortable, he would pump out the inspection chambers, line the walls with with GPO sheets, set gas burning ring up (heating)& have pailer at the ready when requiring a wee.I could go on & on, however, I feel this short note gives you a an idea of those great times that we all had.

Paul

Your site is excellent and is a wonderful reference and guide to happier times. As you know my Dad Chris and your Dad Uncle John were cut off the same block. Was reading your tribute to your dad, was near in tears as I had always thought my dad was John Wayne as well. Uncovered a photo recently of the two boys in old Killyleagh Football team photo, your dad looked like he was holding court. Anyway keep up the good work keeping the Killyleagh Hanna' smilie s to the fore.
