MessageHi Dennis,
Great site, my dad's family (MORGAN) came from Killyleagh, Shrigley to be precise I know they lived in in the Short Row originally, then moved to a new house at Osborne Drive. My uncle Patrick worked at the Tannery from the 50's through till its closure in the late 80's or 90's. My Grandmother (Mary Ann) was well known around the village and lived there till she died.
I would love to hear from anybody who knew the family or has any info about Shrigley.

MessageGood site and good memories Dennis. I joined in '79 and worked as an installer at Maltravers and Intake and left in '97 after a few years in Eldon. Some good men, a few who have sadly left us. So many names to mention but one or two were pretty special. You have mentioned Malcolm White, God rest his soul who I can still picture now as well as Reg Dingley who was never without a smile on his face. Remember Tony Hardwick very well and Keith Chappell (anyone know what happened to him?)and hundreds more. Sure I kept my Pots piss-in (bowl G I )when I left but not sure where I last left it.....

MessageLoved all the reminiscences on the site.
Re-the Commer van explosions. Someone did it at Hathersage exchange once. Unfortunately the building up that back road was running a hush-hush meeting of some VERY important people, and armed security were all about at the time. They thought it was a security breach and came hurtling down to find what was happening. These were the "shoot first and ask questions later brigade". It took some explaining that it was a commer van and not someone with a bomb !!!!

MessageDennis,

Former residents of Killyleagh may be interested in a new tourist guide book that has just been published to the town, called Best of Killyleagh. For those feeling homesick and missing the old place, there are great colour pictures of what it looks like today together with features on some of the most recent changes such as the Sloane statue, Delamont Park and the waterfront walk plus a look back at some of the great names Killyleagh people are proud of -- Sir Hans Sloane, Edward Hincks, Blackwood, Archibald Hamilton-Rowan. Details from bestofkillyleagh@aol.co.uk. Copies are available from shops in the town or via that e-mail.

Regards,

Chris Hagan
