MessageAlthough I have never met Shawn Tompkins, I got the perception that he was a great coach who was very humble and very selfless as well as driven by his desire to be the best coach that he could be to his fighters and his team. That may or may not be how he was, but that is the perception I got from watching videos of him coaching the likes of Sam Stout, Vitor Belfort, Randy Couture, Mark Hominick, and Chris Horodecki, just to name a few. I was very shocked to read online that he passed away. 37 is way too young of an age to pass away at, but life is short and we should live every minute of every day to the fullest, doing what we love and enjoy the most. The world has lost one of its great coaches, and the fight world gathers with the family of Shawn Tompkins to mourn his passing. The family has lost a father, brother, son, cousin, uncle, nephew, husband, brother in law, son in law, father in law and grandson in Shawn Tompkins while the fight world has lost a role model, a motivator, and a coach among other things in Shawn Tompkins. My deepest condolences go out to the family of Shawn Tompkins. Rest In Peace Shawn Tompkins.

MessageHad the neat opportunity to meet Shawn along side Sam in Oklahoma and really appreciate what he did for his team and for his fans. I have a wonderful picture with Shawn, Sam, and myself. I will cherish the memories of that night and every time he jumped into the ring or cage to congratulate the fighters he trained so tirelessly. Sometimes it seemed like he was more excited than the guys who just won. Thanks Shawn. Hit the mits with St Michael for me. God bless you. Prayers for Shawn and his family and for the guys he bled and sweated with every day.

MessageWhile I didn't personally know "The Coach", I most certainly love the sport of MMA. I have never read, heard or seen a bad word about him. His love of this sport truly radiated in every word he spoke. Every time he was on MMA Junkie radio, he was a true pleasure to listen to. Most of us feel the Junkie nation as a small family and we all loved coach Tompkins. May he rest in peace, and may his family know how deeply sorry we are for their loss. You were one of a kind Coach and will be truly missed.
