MessageWhenever you heard that a fighter's coach was Shawn Tompkins you knew you were in for a treat.

When I think of a Shawn Tompkins fighter I think of discipline, technique and heart.

Just as an MMA fan I will miss the man and his contributions to the sport.

Thanks, Mr. Tompkins.

MessageI first saw Shawn at an IFL event when he took over for Bas. I was initially disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing Bas and I didn't know Shawn. Throughout the event his energy and constant smile made me take notice of how much he enjoyed coaching and seeing his guys perform. Over the years his infectious energy was a constant as he walked fighters out of the tunnel smiling and yelling positives into their ears. One particular memorable time was when he walked Wanderlei out to face Jardine. The look in his eyes told the whole arena that his guy was ready and he couldn't wait to show the world.
I only met Shawn for a couple of days during a Paradise Warrior Retreat in 2009. After admiring his work for a couple of years I was nervous to train with him. The nerves quickly disappeared when he walked into the room with the other coaches and eagerly greeted everyone. It didn't matter if you were a world champion or janitor, he gave everyone the same respect and time. I look forward to getting more tips from him one day and perfecting that liver punch.

MessageWhile I never had the chance to meet Shawn personally, I've heard only great things from those who did. As a London, Ontario native myself I would always cheer for the fighters in his corner.

His passion for his work and his impact on the mma community (especially in Canada) was tremendous and he will be solely missed by everyone.

MessageI couldn't be more saddened by this news. As someone who has been covering MMA for a few years, Shawn was one of the first guys to accept me as a credible MMA reporter and would always make time for me. He was also the first trainer to remember my name (you'd think that would be easy with a 4 letter name but it isn't!). I will never forget that - he was truly a class act and it shows with all of his students. This is a huge loss to the MMA community.
