MessageHi Tarquin,
that was almost an overdue idea; well done for putting this into the limelight! I just came across your very nice display at the NUIG library. Great that there is a nice piece of info next to each pic, too. I've been visiting and photographing some of these sites myself (our of sheer curiosity), share your sentiments and assume (not being Irish myself) that there is obviously no (Irish) money about to save (m)any of these houses.
Would it then make sense to record the interiors and exteriors of each building in more detail, say, with a LF architectural camera? Basically becoming an archaeological record....? Just a thought.
Congratulations again and I hope you raising awareness rattles the right doors!
I'd love to restore e.g. Tyrone House if I could!

MessageThis website is a credit to you. I will derive hours of pleasure looking at these great old buildings.
It's inspirational to see what people can do when you see the likes of Castle Olvier. I wish more people of means would tackle some of these projects.
I know where my next lottery win will go!
Congrats on a job well done!
Shane

MessageI don't think the Boland's mills that you have here is the location of the Irish forces during the Easter rising. They were in the building near Mount St. that the Treasury building was built around in the 1980s.

MessageI visited Ballybeg Priory last weekend and marvelled at the pigeon loft. My phone wasn't up to photographing the interior so I was delighted you managed to capture the uniqueness of this building. smilie

Messagefantastic site.in my county mayo it has scores if not hundreds of abandond mansions, most of them burnt down in the twenties.shamefull but on the upside their are equal numbers being lived in and in good repair.i am trying to gather origional photos of some mansions which are now gone.ireland is full of these houses, because in the 1800s the biggest houses in europe were built in ireland.and for anyone who would want to buy one of these houses in ireland prices have hit the floor.
