MessageCongrats on the new book Mr Blake.

in response to E Hanley's previous comment, I visited Ballinderry mill in February this year. The mill wheel and grinding gear is still in situ which was lovely to see. The building is in quite a bad state of repair though as parts of the roof and floors have collapsed. The building is listed in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and it's record can be found on the buildings of Ireland website.

MessageHi,

I wonder if you know of an old water mill in a place called Ballinderry in North Tipperary . It is called Ballinderry Mills unsurprisingly and it used to be a brewery as well according to the old osi maps. I was told that it had the biggest water wheel in a mill in Ireland.

Me and my friends when we were kids spent a few summers playing in and around it and managed somehow not to get seriously injured! It had 3 floors including the basement and the roof was intact in a large part of it. It still had a lot of equipment in it which I think was removed in later years. There was a room directly above the furnace that had thick ceramic tiles with holes in it to dry out the wheat I suppose . It shares a courtyard with the local georgian house which I think is till occupied. It was an amazing place to explore when I was a kid and probably still is if there is much of it left.

Regards,

E Hanley

MessageHi,

Great website .I am going to buy both of the books and am looking forward to reading them.

I was just wondering if you are related to the Blake family in Galway ( one of the 14 tribes of Galway).
Because there is a ruin of a castle in a place called An Caislean in Connemara . Its near to Connemara Airport. Its known locally as Blakes castle.

Best of Luck,

E Hanley

MessageA fantastic collection of some of the most moving and beautiful photography I have seen in a while - a window into simpler times.... I have lived in Boston for the last 13 years, but am originally a Carey from Clonmel, so I was particular interested in the history of "Carey's Castle" outside of Clonmel.
Keep up the terrific work!
Yours, Louise.
