MessageI was delighted to find some information in Lumpkin county on the family of Sara Mauser and Joabert White. I am currently researching the Mauser/Mouser and White family in Georgia, and was having trouble finding on-line data. The information that Chad White has shared is excellent! I do have a few corrections to make, if that is possible. Please feel free to contact me.....

I was able to get some leads on this special family, and will continue "collecting" info on them.

The photographs were stunning!

Sincerely,
Barbara Mouser Nathman

MessageThank you for your article on William Pierce Price. It was very informative. I think it is fascinating that he was so prominent and a Georgia Representative. He was a charter member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Georgia Delta Chapter, which was founded Sept. 29th 1879 at North Georgia Agricultural College. Sigma Alpha Epsilon was the only fraternity founded in the Antebellum South that survived the Civil War and still exists today. How fascinating the amount of brothers he must have met in South Carolina and Georgia during and after the Civil War. Even more fascinating is that he was able to meet a fellow brother, President William McKinley, in Atlanta 1898 and present him a Dahlonega Gold Nugget. President McKinley was initiated by Ohio State (Ohio Theta) 1891.

MessageRe: Copper Mine. If you're referring to the one on the Chestatee River that is across the old dirt road from the river and right before you went over the old one-lane bridge then it's the one my Pa Carder worked in. His name was John Davis Carder. His daddy was Wimpy Carder who I believe was a preacher and who also had a grist mill. As a child, we would play in the cold water of the Chestatee in the summertime. My brother would threaten to take me into the mine (the opening was big) and leave me. I have a picture of my daddy, Oscar Wigley and myself, my brother and sister taken by the bridge near the mine around 1955. When I get a chance to scan the picture, if you're interested, I'll be glad to pass it on. Janie

MessageYa'll have done a wonderful job on this site. I can't tell you what it means to me to see these old photos. I spent lots of summers up in the mountains with my Wigley and Carder cousins. My granddaddy was James Merritt Wigley and my daddy was Oscar F. Wigley. My mother was Mary Carder Wigley. Her parents were John Davis Carder and Sarah Grindle Carder. Thanks to all for such a great job. Janie

MessageTrying to trace genealogy. Great Grandmother's name was Hull, (Dovie ?) She was an Indian Medicine woman. Her daughter died shortly after giving birth to my grandmother who was taken in by the John and Emmalissa Caldwell and raised with the Caldwell name.
