MessageI am working on a project to write the history of the War Between the States of soldiers from Lumpkin County. This includes both Union and
Confederate soldiers.

Do you have resources which will be included (with proper acknowledgements and citations)? Pictures of veterans and bios would be great?.
Please include your permission to allow me to publish your information.

Can you direct me to other sources to add to my research?

Keeping our Lumpkin County heritage alive!

Messagesmilie I am the G-Granddaughter of John Franklin Tyner (Tiner). He is shown under 'Confederate Soldiers Living In Lumpkin County, January 1, 1909'

101. Tinner, J. F. (C) 52nd. Ga. Vol. 1862 1865 Home

Mispelled...Tinner should be Tiner

After the war and after he had his children HE changed the spelling of our last name from Tiner to Tyner. I am from his son, Rufus Allen Tyner, my father is his son William Grady Tyner of Calhoun Georgia.
Glad to find your site. Have been researching my maternal (Dorsey) family for 7 years and am ready to start on my paternal Tyner family.
I found grave location of Martha C Tiner and Wiley Tiner. My brother says that John F. Tiner is buried in Auraria, but I can't find him in any of the cemeteries on your site. Thanks for having such a great site. I look forward to using it in the near future. I have several pictures of John if interested. Have not looked at your entire site, but in the guestbook everyone keeps referring to the pictures...going to check it out after I post

MessageFar as I can tell, all of the few Grizzles in Texas are descended from Lumpkin County. I would appreciate contact from anyone working Grizzle genealogy. BTW - I am from Longview, Texas. By unbelievable coincidence, my employer, Satterwhite Log Homes, selected Ellijay as their Eastern Division location in 2007. Not until Spring 2010 did I discover my family ties to nearby counties. I now get to spend a considerable amount of time in North Georgia, but I don't know anybody or where to start. I have a keen interest in family history, and any assistance is appreciated. Please contact me by email or phone. (903) 238-4465 mobile.
