MessageMy grandparents, Marie and Craig Lynn lived in Henry River for many years where they raised my dad and his brothers and sister (Tony, Scottie, Mickey Joe and Gary). I LOVE this website. How wonderful!!!

MessageMy grandparents lived in the mill village and raised five children. (around 1920) My father was the youngest child and lives across the bridge on a plot of land that his father gave him around the 1960's. I have several photos of my grandparents in the mill village. They met in the village as teenagers and fell in love. I have always been sentimental about the village and hate to see it fade away. I was so glad that I found this website.

MessageI am a new resident of Burke County, living in Icard. I found the Henry River Village by mistake recently. Christmas 2010 I was searching for a business called Bows & Ballistics trying to buy a Christmas gift. I was told by a pawn shop that it was on the same road the village is located on, which turned out to be wrong. But in my search, I came upon the village. I had no idea what it was and everyone I asked didn't know either. So tonight, I decided to see if the internet could be of any help in my search about the village. I am simply fascinated about historical things, especially USA and NC history. I am interested in the possibility of taking a tour of the village if that is available. I am also interested in any preservation opportunities or groups that might exists. This has absolutely fascinated me since a few days before Christmas 2010. I am now more interested than ever since I have been able to read stories about the Henry River Village. I would appreciate any response to this message.

Thank you,
Glen Millard

MessageI live in Morganton and homeschool my son. We came out and visited the village for the first time today. He woould like very much to be able to take a tour. We didn't go anywhere except in front of the store since it was no trespassing but if there is any way we could set something up so he could go inside the store and visit the mill that would be great! He wants to write a report on the village for his history lesson.

Thank You,
Lynn Church

MessageThis Henry River website is about to go belly-up, so please join us on the "Henry River Mill Village" Facebook group. I tried to post a link but the system wouldn't let me. You can find it easily from within Facebook.

There's actually more info there and as of today we have 170 members who have ties to Henry River including many who grew up there.

MessageMy father, Enoch Abernethy worked for the mill for many years. He repaired the machinery and drove trucks for the mill. He told me that he had at one time or other moved people in or out of about every house on the Hill. Gaither Gross was a cousin of our family. We lived across the river just into Catawba County.

MessageI grew up with a lot of wonderful classmates that lived in the Henry River Village. Some of my most cherished times were spent at the home of Sue Raby. Her dad was Ben Raby. We would have our church GA meeting there. Those were the good old days. The Hames, Reep, Lynn, Burns, and Raby children were the best.

The Henry River Village is on some of the most beautiful land in Burke county. A great place to have grown up.

This site is just wonderful. Great job.
