MessageI´ve found the The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street book in a second hand bookshop here in my hometown, I am reading it, and searching the places that are mentioned in the book and the bound with the previos one Helene Hanff´s book, and I just want to express that I´m really enjoying (and even loving) her narrative and the story, I think it´s a wonderful way to learn about London, thank you.

Best Regards,

Karla Garcia

MessageMy husband and I watched the film last week for the first time and loved it. Robert Osborne said that the book store is no longer there and there is a bar there but that there is a plaque on the wall and mention of Miss Hanff. Is that accurate information?

MessageI watched 84 Charing Cross Road for the first time last night and absolutely loved every minute of it.
I have been traveling to England since 1996- spending several weeks a year just exploring the countryside there. I am a huge fan of old movies (from the 40's especially) but my favorites are the British ones. I love the countryside and enjoy visiting locations that were used for filming particular movies. My very favorite village being Castle Combe which was used in the old version of Dr. Doolittle. I would live there if at all possible! I will purchase the 84 Charing Cross DVD as soon as possible and more than likely watch it several times a year!

MessageYour pages are great. I did visit your site before and now I am checking your updates. Tomorrow, 22 Nov, I'll be walking and photographing the 84 Charing Cross plaque. I just finished to watch this beautiful, moving story again. I am Brazilian by the way, and when in my home country my father and I used to watch together all these nostalgics movies from 40s to 60s and Charing Cross was one of them. I never imagined in my dreams some day in future I would be living here (UK) and have a chance to see, to photograph, and to live all emotions of a true story.

MessageHey, I'm currently directing the stage version of this fantastic story. It's really great to get into the head of Miss Hanff and of Frank. If you are interested in watching one of the greatest love stories ever told (well in my eye's anyway) visit www.honleyplayers-ads.org.uk for more info. This is a play I have wanted to direct for ages and this is my chance.
Great site

Message84 Charing Cross Road is near the Palace Theatre, which is at the crossing of Charing Cross and Shaftesbury Avenue. In 1981, when I first passed that way, the shop was a record store owned by a couple of young guys who claimed to have moved in with no knowledge of Marks & Co or Helen Hanff. However, tourists asking after Marks & Co inspired them to lay in a supply of Ms Hanff's book, which they displayed beside the cash register. They also scrubbed up the old Marks & Co sign stored in the basement and mounted it along the stairs to the second floor for all to see.

Since 1981, the space has housed a variety of tenants, of which I remember a restaurant. A kitchen outfitter may be there now.
