| Message | Mr. Aronofsky, I'm hoping that you read this. I teach a Humanities class at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Illinois, and my students, after a unit on Hinduism and Buddhism, watched The Fountain. They were so smitten with it and the ideas you grapple with that they wrote you a letter about what it all means. They have some ideas and are looking for some feedback. Is there some place I can send said letter that they might receive a reply from? They spent a lot of time talking, thinking, and writing about the movie, and a response from the man himself would really mean a lot to them. | Message | Darren Aronofsky, I'm a writer too and i hope a director in a few years. I'm finishing my second short movie and i have three long movies in the head. So yours are a very big inspiration for me because they always talk about universality and our place in this unlimited universe. But sometimes, in front of your original point of view and way you use to show it, i feel the task will not be easy. But i know nothing is impossible and i try now to mix my influences with my own story (certainly like you do it). Consequently, the result is very personals subjects showed with the most universal point of view. It's an amazing experience ! One of my many wishes is to work with you one day in the future. | Message | I did not see The Fountain, I experienced it. Thanks to it's cinematic beauty,soul-moving score and symbolic storyline. It stirred my mind and my heart and I experienced art in a way I had not before. Thank you Darren, I hope you continue to explore new grounds and portray beauty in many dimensions as you did in The Fountain. I loved it so much I've made over 2 dozen people see it. And we've all LOVED it. |

| Message | Darren, Before a film maker you are a true visionary. I agree with your prediction of a return to more 'earnest' art but until then please keep doing what you do. The themes of your films are ones i and many others think about all the time and how you manage to transcend these important 'realities' and not be pretentious or nonentertaining is phenomenal. I was patiently waiting for the Fountain when i heard the rumour that mogwai were collaborating with the kronos quartet and clint mansell for the sound track. It was one of those double take eye rubbing moments - mogwai are my favourite band - so personally things couldn’t have fallen into better place. Talking with friends and it seems intentionally or not that you always end up in the situation where you are close to making studio film but end up with another indie. This must be your way of keeping full control and if you must remain in obscurity to produce your films then please keep doing it! Reminds me of Aphex Twin and his integrity to art. Personally i could not imagine the Fountain with CGI and Brad Pitt! Thank you once more Darren. Best wishes, Chris Gardiner p.s what is your procedure on hiring production interns?
