MessageI keep watching The Fountain and feel that some underlying theme is happening more than what is face value. I was hopping to get a little more insight on this film and how it came about.

MessageHey Darren,

I'm a High School Student (Senior) looking to pursue a career in the film industry as a director. As a side note, you're one of my favorite directors, very inspirational: Keep up the good work. I am actually trying to contact you directly since I've heard from another director that you're very good about helping out young filmmakers.

What's really bugging me right now though is the "Vibrating Cam" shots in 'Requiem For A Dream'. In your director's commentary, and even online, I can't seem to come across good info on this technique. I found your work in 'Requiem' to be especially inspirational, and I highly reccomend it as a must see to all my friends and all my Video Production classmates.

I really do hope you can take time out of your busy schedule to contact me or shed light upon more information about your technique. I know a good magician never reveals his secrets, but it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You very much for taking time to read this post, and thank you very much in advance if you are able to reply.

Thanks,
Rafael.

We didn't know each other very well, but I went to Murrow High School with you in the '80's; I hung out with the crowd by 210, and acted in some of the plays. Wanted to congratulate you on all your success and tell you that I've recently caught up on "Pi" and "Requiem"; both absolutely excellent. Haven't seen "The Fountain" yet, but I will.

I went on to NYU film school as an undergrad, and I did finish; I'm now thinking about a grad degree in cinema studies. But I've had some real trouble in my life; "Requiem" impressed me on a deeply personal level because I had a serious drug problem for years, and just got clean 7 months ago. "Requiem" is the first drug film I've seen which effectively counterbalances the romanticism of the topic. I'm a fan of films like "Sid and Nancy" and "Christiane F.", but know too many people for whom those films fed into some death trip, people who started using heroin because of their influences. Congrats on writing an excellent screenplay with Selby! And best of luck.

MessageYou are an incredible director and I love all three of the movies you have made so far. They have really inspired me and I'm going to film school in Chicago next year. I would love to get and tips or just chat for awhile, you have my email. Don't stop making movies, they're like visual poetry and I'm in love with them. Thank you.

MessageThank you for being such a gentlemen during Fantastic Fest a while back. I was working in the box office at the time and you were kind enough to sign my Pi and Requiem DVDs. Best wishes from Austin TX and I hope to see more from you and yours. Once again I thank you sir.
