| Message | Lauren, This is the email I got from Dr. Alatorre: Hi Judy – I have had several discussions with various people about the philosophy and practices of OCHSA. What I found out is that the commitment to the Arts is paramount to the mission and beliefs of the school. Everyone that I spoke to reinforced this belief of what OCHSA is about. I also checked into the Student Policies and Procedures and Curriculum Handbook for OCHSA and each document are clear that all students are enrolled for both academic and conservatory full-time. When we spoke I talked about the ‘whole child’ and importance of developing many aspects of the student. For many schools (especially in the ‘traditional’ public schools) this is the main focus of their educational program, and rightfully so. For OCHSA, we are specialized and committed to the mission of our charter. Because of this there is not the possibility of taking a ‘reduced’ schedule in the conservatory. I know this puts the decision back on Lauren, and hope that she will see the value of what we have to offer. Ron I'm as bummed as you about it since I spent 1 1/2 hours in his office a couple of weeks back - making your case. I don't think either decision will be bad. We'll talk. Love, Snoopy |
