MessageIn late susmmer, 1969 while leading a formation of 6 T-28 aircraft from VT-5 in Pensacola with a group of nugget aviators who were making their first traps onboard the USS RANDOLPH steaming just east of Jax, Fla., as lead instructor pilot I orbited overhead and watched my "chicks" below. When they had finished thier landings, I asked the Air Boss if I could come down for my own carrier landing. The reply was "Negative, the pattern is closed and we are heading to the scrapyard." I then replied "But sir, my name is Lieutenant Randolph."Signal Charlie" was the reply and I made the last arrested landing on the Randolph. Later in my airline career, I thought that I had seen CVS 15 moored in the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard rather than Philly. Hmm? Long live Naval Aviation!!!
