MessageMy father served on her in the late 50's. We were stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. I can still remember my mother pointing her out when she was coming into port after a long cruise. We went out on a liberty boat to see my dad. A sailer had to carry me up the gangway stairs on the side because the steps seemed so tall and it was a long way to the water. Thats been 50 years. My dad retired as a CPPO E-7. He passed away six years ago. Thanks for having this site.

MessageThis is to inform all the proud veterans who served on the USS Randolph during World War II that one of your own, fire controlman first class John P. McWeeny passed away August 6th, 2006. His stories about his service on board the carrier were a source pride, inspiration and entertainment to his family and friends and I am proud to be son.

With special thanks to all who served with my father.

John C. McWeeny

MessageMy wife, Barbara Taylor's uncle was Sammy Legatos, who was lost MIA on 16 Feb 1945. He was a Naval Aviator in squadron 12. After the recent passing of Sammy's brother we have come into posession of much of Sammy's personal effects, log books, a yearbook from the carrier Randolph, a complete flight suit in a-1 condition and many other splendid items which belonged to this one among many heroes.

On his last day in action, Sammy's log book is stamped with two rising suns.

We want to find the right home for his things. Perhaps a museum or memorial. Any and all recommendations are welcome.

Thank you Veterans!

MessageMy grandfather served on Randolph & was injured in the Kamikaze attack. I have enjoyed this website as he did not like to discuss the war very much. Would like to hear from anyone who may have know him, Herbert Eli Mclaughlin, originaly from Pennyslvania.
