MessageMy father served on the Randolph from 1946 to 1949. His name is Richard Howard and he is from Bronx,New York. He is still alive and well and I was wondering whether someone that served with him wanted to contact him. I believe he was a Seaman 1st class.

MessageAs a young kid, probably around 1969, early 1970, my dad took me to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to see 2 of the hugest ships I had ever seen. They were docked side by side - the USS Essex and the Randolph. It wasn't until several years later I found out the names of the ships. It was a huge thrill, as I had been a big navy buff growing up. I later saw these 2, along with the Shangri-La and Yorktown at Bayonne, and saw the Yorktown being towed away out of NY harbor to Charleston

MessageMy dad, Jack (John) Sr. served as a gunners mate at the end of WWII. He received a Purple Heart during Okinawa (I think). He passed away in 1998.
If anyone remembers him, perhaps you could reply. All of you that fought during that "war to end all wars" remain the greatest heroes and roll models of my life. Thank you all!!!

March 14, 1923-April 22, 2008

Delmar “Del” Till was born in Lincoln Nebraska on March 14, 1923, the oldest son of Rex and Vivian Till. His parents lived in a sod house on the prairie and left in 1935 during the dust bowl era. They packed their four boys in their old car and moved to Washington, farming in various areas. Del was a decorated veteran, joining the U.S. Navy in 1942 and serving in the Pacific theater during WWII on the aircraft carrier the USS Randolph. He retired from Alaska Airlines after 36 years. Del was loved by all his family and is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters Laura (Dan) Clawson, Carol (Dave) Taylor, Judy (Don) Armstrong, and Linda Till (Dave Buffon); step children Maggie, Ron (LaVonne), Mary and Perry Mathis; brothers David, Milton (Imogene) and Ron (Colleen) Till; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

MessageGreetings from Sardinia

On july 1954 several Panthers of VF-144 aboard USS Randolph landed at Cagliari-Elmas in southern Sardinia (one was the n. 405, seem to be 126631, an all metal Panther with black trimmed cockpit)and lined up in the parking apron of the airdrome. I am writing a book about the aviation history in Sardinia and I wonder if I could get contact with pilots who were there, or any other USS Randolph veterans who may have landed at Cagliari-Elmas during their several Mediterranean cruises, and may have taken photographs or could share memories of that visit. I would be happy to enclose them on my history project. Thank you very much for your kind help and cooperation.

MessageI was aboard the USS Randolph in the 1960's. I was a yellow shirt. I launched planes in the daylight and at dark. I fell off the aircraft carrier once during the night launching the plane. I had a lot of good experiences.
