MessageJust a short message from me, I wish everyone connected with Merstham FC the best of luck over the coming seasons. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent here and found everyone extremely welcoming.

I sincerely hope the squad is retained by the new management, a great bunch of lads to work with.

All the best,

Antony

MessageJust seen the news that Hayden Bird has been given the task of 1st Team Manager,my first thoughts are the board have gone with a man with loads of experience at this level and higher but i do have a lot of symphony for Anthony & Robert who to be fair did a very good job as Caretaker manager's. Couple of things that come to mind is Hayden going to given more of a budget ? Is he bringing his own back room staff in ?.What i can't work out is why have the board gone with someone who although has loads of experience has not really won anything. The board say that they had over 20 people apply, and i cant believe that there was not someone out of the 20 who had a least won something at this level, because again my view is that surly it would of been better to keep Anthony & Rob.I could go on, but for the time being lets see what job Hayden does

MessageWell, what can I say!!
The club has taken its time to make its appointment, I just hope its the right one. With Hayden Birds history of bringing with him his own funds to a club (Croydon Ath, Carshalton & Bromley) and paying players out of his own pocket he has no real loyalty in moving on and taking them players and his money with him once a 'better' opportunity arises.
I feel the team was turning the corner and results and performances we're improving so does somewhat seem a needless appointment.
But time will tell, these are just my thoughts!

MessageFirstly, I would like to say well done to the caretaker managers during their period. All be it we didn't look like we would win games, but we were very hard to beat. In that respect fair play.

I hope Mr Bird does well in his role with us for all involved, however looking at all previous roles he has been in there have been numerous stories floating around about events surrounding him.

Are we about to see a big spending, big name side come to town? What will happen to the current squad?

I also would like to know why was Perry Gough overlooked for the role? A man who coached Leatherhead to success in this league last season? R

MessageWell I think I'm right in saying that that is the first time we have beaten Faversham - they have been a bit of a jinx side to us in the last few years - so if that is the duo's last game in charge then at least they have gone out on a high.

...eagerly awaiting the news on the manager's job tomorrow...

MessageI don't know who this guy, Far Away Moatside is but as far as I am concerned he's talking through a hole in his moatside. The board are there to manage the club and whatever they do I am confident that it will be in the best interests of the club. So let's allow them to attend to their responsibilities without this sort of negative interference. I'm sure that my view on this is representative of the vast majority of fans.

MessageCan I start by saying to Far Away Moatsider at least the next time that you post have the courage to tell us who you really are. The interveiws this week are a culmination of a process that the board started when Taff walked out on the club after the match against Walton Casuals and after a run of not very good results.

Merstham are not a club with a history of sacking managers. The last three managers all took the first step in informing the board that they no longer wished to continue managing the club. When Grame Banyard left the board appointed Taff first as acting manager and then later confirmed this as permanent appointment. The job was not advertised and that process did not turn out to be a great success.

In my opinion on this occasion the board have adopted the correct approach in advertising the vacancy so as they can test what options are avaliable to the club. I am pleased that Ant & Bob have applied for job and also pleased that they have been shortlisted, but the board owe it to all at the club to insure that the best possible manager is appointed and also make an appointment of a manager who fully understands that he will have operate within the budget that the club makes available

So Far Away Moatsider your right about the success that Ant & Bob have had since they took over as acting mamnagers, but I'm afraid very wrong about the way that the board have gone about appointing a successor to the previous manager.

MessageI think the board have been spot on in their decision to advertise the job and interview candidates. Whilst I agree that ant and rob have done a decent job at the time they took on the job the board would have had no idea how they would perform. They are both young guys with very little managerial experience so to just give them the job would have been a huge risk. Secondly I don't think the board have been at all disrespectful to Ant and Rob. The board made their concerns clear to them and they asked to be given until Christmas to try and prove themselves which they agreed to but also told them they would be advertising the post to see what candidates applied. If they hadn't done this and Ant and Rob had performed terribly where would we be then? Starting the New Year with no managers and having to go through the whole procedure of advertising and interviewing managers which could have taken us into February by which time we could have been staring at another relegation fight. Ant and Rob have been kept in the loop at all times so I don't see how this is disrespectful. Finally, the board have a duty of care to the football club and in advertising the post and conducting interviews they are ensuring that the club has the best person possible in place to take the club forward. Ant and Rob are being interviewed and obviously their results during this period will come into consideration when the board make their decision so there is every chance that they will get the job on a permanent basis. But I urge you to remember what happened the last time the board gave the job to a caretaker manager because he did a good job during his caretaker period? Oh that's right he walked out leaving us where we are now! Well done to the Board for making sure we have the best people in charge of the team.
