MessageI think it's appalling that we call ourselves the greatest nation on the planet and yet there are hardworking people right here in our State who, despite having 2 or more full-time jobs, still do not have enough money at the end of the week to pay for the basics in life. I find it truly sad that it takes a petition to bring it to the attention of our State Leaders that $5.15 an hour is not enough. It wasn't enough in 1996 - I know, because I worked 3 minimum wage jobs to pay for an apartment, insurance on a 15 year old car that spent more time in the shop than on the road, student loans and the occasional piece of fresh fruit (if there was enough money left over). The prices of everything have gone up in the past 10 years so one would think that the minimum wage would increase along with the cost of living. Sadly this has not been the case. I, for one, think that the minimum wage should be increased beyond the $6.15 being called for. I challenge anyone today to try and raise a family on the "minimum." You can only cut so many coupons, trim so much fat and clip so many corners.
