| Message | Served on Spangler from 1956 to Dec. 1957. Was an RM3 and used the GIBill for college. During the 1957 cruise to Westpac the ship was diverted to Kwajalein because I had double pneumonia. As a pollywog I was not inducted until our second crossing. Look at the map, the greatest cruise ever. |

| Message | I woke up this morning remembering that 67 yeas ago I set foot on board USS Spangler DE696 as as an SA, fresh out of boot. With me were Dale Joyce, Charles Kimbrell, Stan Biess. There were a couple of others, but I don’t remember their names. She as in dry dock at Hunters Point naval shipyard, San Francisco.she as to be my home for the next 3 1/2 years. I left her in SanDiego on May 17 1954. She was a good ship and I am fillled with memories of my time and the friends I made. She has gone to the breakers yard now bu in our hearts she sails on. GOD bless all that served on her. |

| Message | 60 years ago, this year - who woulda dreamed it. I recall being on the bridge in '57 wondering if any of us would live to see year 2000 - what seemed like a long, long way in the future back then. Wonderful hearing from you Gene. "Whew" fits 1957 just right! |

| Message | Back aboard ship again. Can feel the rumble! Smell the smell! This time aboard the S.S. Badger, a passenger-car ferry across Lake Michigan. A 4-hour trip. It's not the Spangler, but many times larger, more like the USS Prairie, a destroyer tender. The vibrating feel is the same. The Badger went into service in 1953, one before I stepped aboard the Spangler. Great memories! |

| Message | I just read the Facebook page about Goers passing away. I well remember A J from our time together on the Spangler. He was a friend of several years and we exchanged Christmas Cards. All of us from this era of Spangler's life were good friends. I feel certain that he and Dave Norris have greeted each other in Heaven. smooth seas and following winds to all my old shipmates. |
