| Message | Great Site. My father served on her in WWII. He quit school at 17 to join, was a Fireman aboard. His name was William H. Decker Jr. he past away several years ago, but spoke highly of his naval experience. He was from Walden , New York. |

| Message | In 1945 I was Division Officer 2nd Division in SPANGLER. In 1946 I was First Lt. Colby was BM1 and was my model for the best boatswain's mate I knew during the next sixteen years that I was in the Navy. Later when I was XO of one ship and commanded another I sure wished I could have Colby aboard as BM and Hux to run the tin knockers and wood butchers. Shipmates may remember me as "Cisco" |
