MessageI was on Spangler 53-57.When we went on that wespac cruise, thay asked me to be the cruise photographer. All these years I wondered if any one everlooked at that cruise book that we made up. Then after 50 years, Don Mcgill got ahold of me, and got me connected with Wayne. How was I to know that any one would ever want to see all those color slides that I took. Well, ya know ole Wayne jumped on me with both feet, and I was able to send him about 100 of these. He wanted to share all this with any one who would care. I am blown away at this response. and so very proud to serve you people one more time. I have a few more sea stories to tell Wayne. Please don't be offended if you think I am talking about you, in these stories. At times I have concealed a name or two, but today, when I think of some of the bizar things we did and got involved in, I just have to spill it. And again, like so many of you have said,,,Thank you Wayne,I think the term they used to us for that kind of service was WELL DONE Mister Dorough

MessageOh how I remember 55 - 57 leaving parts of my body on the foaming sea. Also remember when the ship lost steering while the mess guy was comming down the ladder with the chilli; what a beautiful arc on the bulkhead. Aukland, New Zealand was a kick; although some of us didn't get along with N.Z. Marines on the last day there. Hey Phil, pics came out great!! Have some of dry dock in Yokosuka (sp). Looking forward to Oct 2005. smilie

MessageGreetings to all! My 'father-in-law' David Rehmeyer was a plank owner of the Spangler. I attended the 2003 reunion with him and his wife, Nancy and his daughter, Dana (my wife). It was a wonderful experience and I've documented it on video and still photo's. I'll try to put together a DVD this winter and make it available for a nominal cost to cover shipping and materials.

This website looks terrific! I hope it will grow richer over the years to come.
