MessageHi everyone,
Good to see so many of you signing in here. I enjoy reading your posts. Another way to leave posts for discussion, etc. is to access our forum section. There you can join in discussions with former members of which you were a part or start a discussion topic of your own
Of course the same rules apply as for the guestbook as we want to keep this site a pleasant place to visit, the same as if you visited the museum itself. I have enjoyed visiting with many of you in person and hope to do more.

Bob Vick, former 2001 Comm Sq member.

MessageI was stationed at K.I. Sawyer in the 410th MMS in loading from Nov 73-June 77. I enjoyed working with everyone while stationed there. I was on the LET (Loading Evaluation Team) as a #1 man and trained the guys how to load munitions onboard the B-52. We loaded the AGM-69 Sram, AGM-28 Hound Dog warhead, ADM-20 Quail, MK28 Clip in Assembly, 20MM Ammo, and ALA-17 Flares. I remember being on call and coming in at 2:00 AM and start loading bombs on the flight line in single digit temperatures and 30 MPH winds. I am retired now and live in the Huntsville Alabama area. I remember the Beer Bust and eating fried Smelt. I also remember picking blueberries behind the shop.

MessageI was stationed at KI Sawyer during the spring and summer of 1958 while the runways were being extended at Kinross. My job was repairing aircraft refueling units. If I remember correctly we had a ice fog during one night mission and two aircraft were damaged as they had to land due to low fuel. Some of the other aircraft landed at various other fields including Escanoba (spelling??) and we had haul J-4 down there. Seems like I transferred back to Kinross before winter. I lived in the barracks directly across from the church at KI.

MessageHi y'all. Just discovered this site. Was 410th Bomb Wing/Base Info Ofcr Sep '64-Feb '67 (2nd & 1st Lt.) First assignment out of OTS. Great memories. Transitioned BOQ life to family housing when I married a newly-arrived base hospital 2nd Lt. nurse - Lt. Ruth Larson. Still married to her 45 yrs. later. What memories of snow drifted over cars - and B52s, Dr. Strangelove at the base theater, trips from Marquette to Houghton, skiing, bowling and of course, work. I left Sawyer for Tinker AFB. Now in western WA state - retired. Where's all the troops from that era? Thanks for the museum, this site and preserving the memories of a great base and assignment.
