| Message | Hi hon,
Looks like your trip is winding up with a bang -- Masada, Red Sea, Bedouin food and tents, etc. Seems terrific. We are, of course, living a much quieter life. I spent 2 1/2 days at Craftsbury outdoor center (4+ hour drive from home, not including the tire that burst while I was driving 65+ mph on a 3 lane highway in 97 degree heat -- but ended up fine). I was eager to learn to scull, as you know, and we had 5 lessons in 2 days (a 6th was cancelled for thunderstorm). Turns out that I don't really like it all that much -- apart from the fact that it's really hard and I'm not very good (but the coaches said I did great for a first time -- should I believe them???), it's too individualistic for my taste. I've discovered that I really like the teamwork in an 8 or a 4, even when we don't really row as a team. So, I'll try it again, maybe next summer at Craftsbury, but I'm no longer eager to buy a shell soon. Too bad! We then spent 1 1/2 days with Michael and MaryPat Robertson at their vacation home in Vermont (only 15 minutes from Craftsbury.) The weather was gorgeous 1 day, so we swam, cannoed (sp?), slept on the dock etc. It poured rain all the next day, so we were forced to do nothing but shop and eat a lot! Lots of fun, and they said hello to you and Lea -- but I was glad to get home. Long conversation with Lea yesterday -- she likes Columbia, has a great hostel, not many interviews yet (getting off to a slower start than in Nicaragua), but ok. love mom |
