God bless you all!!

MessageMy great grandfather was Luigi Piccoli. Among his children were Antonio, Domenic, Vincenzo(my Grandfather), Marian, Nicola, Giose. I am wondering if any of the Piccoli's in Torricella are related to this family. Antonio, Domenic, and Vincenzo all ended up in Colorado where I still live. Vincenzo married Enrichetta Fratura from Penadomo. I have been to Torricella once and plan on visiting again in September 2009.

MessageMy Dad, who is 91, is planning to visit Carrito in early September. He was a P-38 pilot in the US Army Air Corp whose plane was shot down over Tunsia, leading to his capture by the Germans. In 1943 he escaped from a prison train while it was at the station in Carrito. He and two others stayed in a cave just outside of Carrito for over a year until the British moved into the area. The priest at the small church in Carrito occasionally provided them with food and shelter and assisted in hiding them under the church altar from the Germans. He would like to make contact with someone familiar with the area in advance of his trip in an attempt to locate the cave he occupied with his fellow escapees. I know this is a long-shot, but if there is anyone very familiar with the war time history of the town and topography of the immediate area, he would like to obtain any information available to determine if locating the cave site is possible. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

MessageHi Ron and Carole DiMeo,

We were in Torricella in 2007 but stayed with relatives. There are 2 hotels in town. One is called Hotel Cape and I think a number of visitors stay there. It is owned by cousins of Angela DiBerardino who is a contributor to this site. Angela goes there for a few months each year and does genealogy research.

At the top of the web page there is a link called around town that has a link to the yellow pages that lists the hotels.

Have a great time.

Marc
