MessageAnn,

On your Web site, tell us about the process of getting permissions to use clips from the commercial films. It would seem to be an interesting (and expensive?) process.

Best Wishes,

MessageIf you want a real-life corollary to Tim Robbins' librarian, feel free to stop by our county jail library to get a look at some extreme librarianship. What librarians do matters, and what we do and who we are often bears little resemblance to Hollywood's impressions of us. I'm so pleased someone's bucking the stereotype on a large scale. Academy, get ready!

MessageI can't tell you how many doctors have asked me, What do we need librarians for? Isn't everything on the web? I can understand high school students having this misconception, but doctors? The last doctor I visited said, You're a librarian? Then you reshelve books, is that what you do? I hope you can clear up some misconceptions, so that SOMEBODY will know what we do.

MessageYes, please don't forget the school librarians. We haven't done very well in films or TV either. You can come and interview me at my school anytime. I will put on my Jimmy Choos and show you that we don't all fit the mold!

MessageHi! I'm an elementary school librarian in NJ. I found your clips about the various librarians entertaining. However I was disappointed to see K-12 school librarians (elementary, high school and middle school) left out. When most adults think of librarians, they think of public or college librarians. However I touch the lives of 500 hundred children a week for 45 minutes for 10 months of the year. Countless former students have returned to my school or met me on the street and recounted positive experiences that they had in my library. They also tell of the impact I have had on their later lives. So even though the general public is not very aware of us, our patrons sure are.

MessageI look forward to viewing the upcoming film. I would hope an ASL interpreter would be included in a small window (captioning is often more distracting). A good source for interpreters is California State University - Northridge - I recommend Pilar.
