MessageGood to see Jack Horton back in Devon. A useful player and a good temporary signing by the Bradninch chiefs. Also good to see some discussion on your guestbook for a change. It's probably what's been needed because, if you go back on it, there has been very little chatter of late and sometimes it is good to talk. Good luck on Saturday and enjoy yourselves. Oh, and by the way, my witch doctor and soothsayer guarantees a Foan Fifty! Zabo of Zimbabwe...in need of some food... smilie

Messagei for one have faith in the boys (and hardy) that they can pull themselves out of the current situation and string a couple wins together. the team ethic is very important and i think they will pull together even more now. with hard work and a bit of luck they will rise up the table and then we will all be talking about a very good 1st season in the premier. just need to try and squeeze some runs out of hardy from somewhere!!!!! smilie

MessageWithout having seen any of the games this year I can only comment from what I hear and what I know of all the players that have played for the club this year.

I believe that everyone that has pulled on the club shirt this year has given everything they have. I, for one, would like to applaud the fight that has been apparent throughout the first half of the season. This season was never going to be easy, but the experience is bringing out the character of the team.

Most of the team started their Devon League careers at a much lower level than they are now performing. Not many of them have any Premier division experience to talk of.

There will not be many from outside the club that would expect our team to survive their first year at this level. But, defeatism is not synonymous with any Bradninch team I have ever played in and I know that every bit of blood and sweat will be expended by the captain and all the players to achieve the highest placed finish possible.

There is much hard work ahead, but that is no more than we expected. But now we have some experience and know what it's all about. There have been some outstanding individual performances from several players so far. We need to show self belief and a little more consistency to start bringing in a few more positive results.

Keep battling hard boys, you deserve to be successful after all the hard work of recent years. Show everyone what can be done.

MessageIt's most interseting to sit back and see the sniping that is appearing here just now. The simple fact is that this season the 1st XI are competing week in and week out with the VERY BEST that the Devon League has to offer. Fundamently, what was always going to be a problem was inflated values of certain players who had found the season on season success of recent years, to be all a little too easy. It's one thing climbing to the heights to play at the top level, but also a very different matter competing week in and week out. From a distance what is clear is that there is no denying individual quality is present in the 1st XI and, having worked so hard to achieve Premier status what is needed now is cool heads. Bowlers to bowl their bit, batters to bat theirs. It is not the players fault that others sought to inflate their value with loud endorsements as to their collective abilities.
In Gary Chapell the side has an all rounder of genuine County standard. The skipper has air miles a plenty in terms of experience and there is a good enough mix of experienced 'Bradninch CC at heart' and youthful enthusiastic passion to battle out of the current predicament - let's have more work on disciplined bowling and batting throughout the side, heads down, hard work - this only for NINE more matches, and we will all be able to enjoy year II in the top flight.

Oh yes, and Ashes prediction -hmmm, in Freddy we trust.

MessageThose sort of messages and attitude aren't going to help us!

We are a small club with limited players playing against teams such as Sidmouth, Exeter who have 3 teams and a strong youth structure. This creates the problem of having enough players of Premier 1st XI quality and competition for places.

Talk about putting the averages up on the website is therefore a waste of time because our best players are in the 1st XI. It will not help those people struggling to perform and people know they aren't scoring enough runs. It's a team game, we win and lose together, so averages aren't useful to us - it's whether we score enough runs as a team, not individually. E.g. an important 10 here and there may be the difference between winning and losing - but is an average of 10 good? Look at Joe Webb's 10 runs against Sandford - low scoring game and it won the game for us...but is 10 a good average?

We don't have an overseas player and all these "if's" and "but's" and negativity and criticism aren't going to help us stay up. The best players in the club are in the 1st XI and trying their best week in, week out and we are enjoying the challenge of Premier XI Cricket. Support and positivity will help us achieve our goal, rather than what's been happening lately!

MessageIt would appear to me that basic re-appraisal of some of your team selection is well overdue. It would be very interesting if the Club published, on the web site, up-to-date averages to focus everyone's minds. In retrospect (and hindsight is a wonderful thing!), it would have been sensible to have continued to search for an overseas player of quality to bolster the side and also motivate everyone. I know it is BCC's first time in the Premier and your true potential has not been realised yet. There's still half the season to go and it would be great to see you all pull the stops out! Continued good luck.

An entusiastic (yet concerned)supporter smilie
