Messagethis is a sad announcement i wish to share with all KROY fans and former staff:

i received word recently about DONOVAN BLUE, who apparently passed away around 2008, following the deaths of his late wife and child in a car accident.

BROTHER BLUE had been living North Dakota at last report where, unfortunately, he never got over the great personal losses he suffered, and died from too much dependence on drugs and alcohol due to the man's intense grief.

DONOVAN was my one-time, very close friend and radio colleague of mine; and i loved him dearly as a good, kind, caring, genuine A-1 human being! searching for D.B. many years hence after we went our separate ways in life, i always thought i'd be able to get together for a splendid re-union with this wonderful guy -- at least one more time in this life...

well, my Friend DONOVAN BLUE, i hope you are enjoying an existence of amazing adventures in the next dimension; so maybe, one day, i will hook up with you somewhere on the Edge of Forever.

with profound respect,

ben e. mccoy, retired.

MessageI grew up listening to KROY with the likes of B. Winchell Clay & Chuck Roy. I played in every contest KROY had and won many of them, in fact during the Wonder Wheel game I managed to get on Chuck's show everyday for a week in the 3:00 hour, on the fourth day Chuck answered the phone and said "I'll bet this is Allan Bondi." I watched Chuck through the control room window at 977 Arden way. I fell in love with the knobs, the meters the mic and the activity and decided this would be what I wanted to do. So I did for about 20 years in the area. Thanks Chuck, you were a grteat influence on me.

MessageGreat fun working with Robert John and Tony Cox back when it was "I97 KROI". Sorry Mr. John for "hustling chicks" on the request line! Best internship in history!

MessageI guess I have more than the usual attachment to KROY... not just being a listener, but someone who did spend time in the radio bizz. I actually interviewed at KROY four times but never got the gig! Hardly a footnote but my life has turned out just fine thank you very much and being able to remember the good times that KROY gave us will always be special. Thank you to everybody who made KROY happen!

MessageI have just ran accros this guestbook.
I see that DONOVAN BLUE is not mentioned. Donovan was the best and most caring D.J. that Kroy ever had. He cared about us - the listeners.
I have something very sad to report - Donovan passed away on March 24th, 2001. He was living in East Grand Forks, ND at that time.
He will always be missed.

MessageFirst a thanks to Jeff March, whose words of encouragement at KDVS gave me the guts to pursue a career in radio. KROY was the first inspiration, though, and I will forever remember the music and the guys who played it: Buck Herring, Mark Ford, Emperor Hap Hopkins, the great Don MacKinnon, Tony Bigg, Buffalo Burch, and on and on.

Other memories: Larry Sherman's march through Sacramento every weekday morning, and all the crazy contests and promotions, including the day the DJ's raced rickshaws through downtown Sac.

A big thank you to the creators of and contributors to this site! It's so great that so many remember and appreciate that KROY truly was the "speaker of the house in the Capital City."
