MessageMy father ( and mother ) owned 20% of sacramento broadcasters. You are missing the early 60's.. Bill Weaver left in 1964 which ended up in lawsuit with Lincoln Dellar .. before Dwight Case was Bill Weaver... i have a kroy playlist from 1964 Weaver was program director and did a little of everything.. But your KROY history is not quite accurate ....

MessageKROY was one of the best stations I was privileged to work. I was with KROY in '76-'77. Byron & Tanaka, Tony Cox, Dave Michaels, Jeff "Mother" Robbins, Brian White, Dave Young, Bill McCrae, Terry Nelson, Bob Malik, Bob West, Rick Shannon, Dean Goss, Brian Davis, and PD Steve Rivers. I began on weekends, then all nights with the departure of Dave Young, then 10-2 then 6-10 when Brian "Blind Owl" White and Jeff Robbins left with Steve Rivers for WIFI, Philadelphia. Eventually the entire staff worked with Steve in Philly or WEFM in Chicago. I think only myself and PM Drive Dave Michaels remained with KROY, Dave as PD. We both regretted our in not moving on with the staff when we were fired by the new PD the same day months after Steve left. KROY was arguably the best medium market Top 40. Thanks to all who taught me more about radio than anywhere I worked. I was blessed with becoming a major market PD, thanks to many including the awesome staff at KROY. Tony Cox, Brian White, Brian Davis, Rick Shannon and KROI FM's Steve Michaels remain in touch decades later via communications unheard of in the late 70's. SacKROYmento is a cherished point in my life.

Messagei am so very sorry to learn about the passing of Donovan Blue. I always liked him. I remember he was the disc jockey on the air that announced John Lennon had died. It was very emotional and sad. On a more uplifting note. Use to go visit the window at 977 arden way and give the disc jockeys food and visit with them. Those were some of the best times of my life. I am 57 years old now and that was when i was 17 !!! Hard to believe 40 yrs ago. But the memories will live with me forever !! THANKS TO ALL THE KROY DJS.. LOVE THEM ALL. THEY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE AND BROUGHT MUSIC SUNSHINE AND JOY!! I AM BLESSED TO HAVE HAD THOSE DAYS! smilie

MessageI grew up listeing to KROY. I would call every on every contest. I remember the Win-Ten-bin with Terry & T.N. in the morning. I still have the number memorized at 766-7711.I must have dialed that number 2 million times.

I later got a job answering the quote lines there at KROY in the Old Sacramento Basement radio station. It was a lot of fun. They paid my in records and concert tickets.

Thanks KROY for keeping entertained and out of trouble as a youngster.

Oh, I almost forgot, Dancin Danny Write or disco Danny sure was full of himself.

MessageK-R-O-YYYY... funny how I can still hear that sounder in my head. KROY back in the 60s and 70s pretty much the dial-tone for Sacramento. My cousin and I used to hang out in front of the studio on Arden Way and watch the jocks through the glass.
Remember Chuck Roy used to sign off with a 'Well, I've got to go ... ' and Santana's 'Treat' playing in the background. An era of radio that is still missed.
Hey, if this is the Ken Shuper who used to work at The Point, hope all is well. You and Bob Keller were great together.

MessageI am/was a long time friend/love partner of Donovan Blue. He passed away on April 24, 2001, at his home in East Grand Forks ND. His passing was due to complications from heart valve replacement he had. He was born with heart problems.
Yes, he did have some demons (for a short period of time)in his life but his love and truly caring for people far passed any and all demons.
His daughter Mandy did not pass away in the acc. in which he lost his wife in 1980.
He was 49 years and 4 months old at the time of his passing.
