MessageRegina: I grew up in Hearne but left in 1974. I never knew that this happened. I went to school with this DA and to church with his grandmother who raised him. I am appalled. My sister was shot and killed in Hearne in 1973. The legal system was then in a shambles. I applaued you for standing up for yourself. I can't wait to see the movie. Came across this story by accident while looking for some other Hearne information. Good luck to you. Would love to also read your book.

MessageHow on earth was this DA still voted into office after what happened? As far as I can tell, the end of the movie where the DA flips out and basically admits to being racist is very accurate. How could he still have been voted into office in a town where the (slight) majority is black? I wonder just how many blacks ended up taking pleas in the last 10 years and are not eligible to vote....someone should do a documentary on this town.
