Message | Purchased a new 67 Chevelle SS 396 L-78, M-21 4 spd, 3:73 posi as it fit in the very top of NHRA A/Pure Stock, it ran 14.4's first time out with 500 miles on the odometer. In 1968 added light dist. springs, removed the heat riser, changed to a M-20 4 spd and G-70x14 belted Mohawk tires, would go 13.9's @ 105 during the warm summer days and 13.7's @107 in the cool evenings. Went an absolute best of 13.54 @ 107 on a cool fall day just before I sold it. The M-20 was worth about 0.4 seconds by itself in the quarter by just having the lower 1st gear, but was not as stout a gearbox as the M-21 or 22, (lower torque rated by the factory). A very quick, fun street car, never beaten in its class. Marina blue with a black bucket interior. |
