MessageSome readers might like a fuller account of the side swiping of our towed car while driving through Villahermosa toward Veracruz on highway 180 that was very congested due to road work. John, driving, asked for and received signalled permission from the driver of a trailer truck in the left lane to move into that lane. He watched our towed car on the backup TV monitor during the maneuver. Shortly thereafter, a truck towing two trailers piled high with scrap metal pulled abreast of us on our right, the driver gesturing wildly to me, in the passenger seat, that we should pull over, which we did at a Pemex station, where we were shortly joined by the truck whose driver had given John permission to move into the left lane, who joined the driver of the scarp metal truck. We then learned for the first time that the left side of our towed car had been side swiped. The right corner of the huge steel bumper of the scrap metal trailer had been pulled forward. Its driver insisted that we had caused the damage and demanded money. It being obvious that our Honda could not have inflicted the damage, and that a scam was underway, we insisted on waiting for the police and then for our insurance adjuster. When the verdict was given that if the driver insisted that we were responsible for the damage to his truck and if we denied it, then all three vehicles would be impounded until a police investigation were concluded, the driver decided that he would not claim such responsibility.

MessageFinally got to reading your blog on your travels in Mexico. Enjoyed it very much, and amen to your comments about the media exploited hype re dangers in Mexico. Also amen to your opinion of caravans, which I share and have written about in letters to RV mags. I am going to include your experience at Freedom Shores in the updates and comments that I will be sending to the Churchs. I may have told you that we also have had negative experiences. A caravan leader once, without a word to us, extended his motorhome's slide out over the row of John's plants arranged along the side of our patio. The wagon master of a caravan that pulled into Tacho's in Puerto Vallarta promptly put a large Confederate flag on the front of his motorhome. He removed it only after I e-mailed the caravan company, which apoligized for the incident.

We are in the fourth of the five days we are spending at the Las Americas RV park in Cholula, a suburb of Puebla. From here we have to negotiate our way around Mexico City to get to Queretero, and as that is always challenging, we have decided to do it on Sunday, when there is less traffic and less chance of being stopped by the police, who seem either to be sleeping or in church on Sunday mornings. It is a nice park (we have been here before) that now has free wifi where I can plug in my computer, thus my ability to at least read your blog.

MessageI never miss a day reading your posts. I enjoy that fact that you write about the sites you see plus your thoughts and observations. Can't wait to live the life you have, traveling to Mexico (and maybe Europe too). We have the same little RV as the friends you have been traveling with.

MessageHello Randle: Just a few words to say that I am an avid reader of the Tioga and George blog and discovered your blog when you visited George a few months ago. I read your dispatches religiously ever since because they are really interesting and your opinions are to the point. I hope that if you keep on traveling with your motorhome, you will keep us, readers, informed of your latest adventures. Congratulations for the good work.

Ghislain

PS. Can you tell me how to have access to other blogs of individuals like you and George traveling in Mexico? I have tried the words "blog mexico" without success. Thank you in advance

MessageHi Croft & Norma. We are still in Merida with Dodie in the hospital after surgery. She will be discharged tomorrow, where we will sit in Rainbow RV Park here for a few days before returning to Isla Aguada for a couple weeks recovery before heading home. Hope you are having fun. Keep up the great blog.

MessageHey Croft,
Kelly from Whistler here, sounds like you're still having fun. Last week in Whistler we had the Paralympian World Cup, a few of our friends were in it. I mentioned Freedom Shores to them, they're very interested. Whistler is now taking adaptive tourism very seriously (a big change in the 10 years we've been instructing people with disabilities). Anyhow, back to the caravan thing, I follow the blog below and I think you may have spoken to these people, if you go through it, you'll see that they've talked to people who aren't caravaning and think they can do it themselves. After reading their blog, I am sure I wouldn't even think of a caravan, like I said I doubt they could deal with a retired fire fighter and me, his very outgoing wife. We're on the same political (union) wavelenght, will you be home for the election. I can't miss my chance to tell Gordons Gin that I hate him and his party (even though in my riding the greens win morre than the NDP). We're staying put until after the election then heading out for wine tasting in Yakima and hopefully warmer weather. Take care,
Kelly

MessageHola Senor Croft, I have been reading your posts for the last couple of months and really enjoy them.
I am very sorry to hear about your brother. I lost one of my older brothers just over a month ago (unexpectantly in another country)so I know the feeling. Fortunately for me I was not leaving for Melaque for 3 days so I was able to cancel my trip and rebook.
We stayed at the Laguna del Tule for 17 days and came home to Edmonton to -21 celius. It is still miserable here so June is probably a good time to visit.
Regards,
Suzette Elder
