MessageAndy, my name is Brett Broussard and Blaine Duhon was my best friend. Your mom posted something on Blaine's caringbridge page and refereced your site. I will keep you in my prayers! I would post a Top Ten list on Blaine's site every now and then and I wanted to share one of those with you that I posted in early September. Good luck with your fight!

Well Blaine, how about another Top Ten list? So here we go boys and girls, from the home office in Palmetto, La, Top Ten reasons to not give up:
10) There was a sign that my Dad hung in my room sometime around the 7th grade. You may remember the sign hanging above my door...it read, “Quitters never win, winners never quit!” Simply put, you can’t beat the beast if you don’t try. “Winning” is not always the outcome WE want, remember that there is more to winning than the final score.
9) “Each of us more hidden inside us than we have had a chance to explore. Unless we create an environment (or one is created for us) that enables us to discover the limits of our potential, we will never know what we have inside us.” This experience has truly shown everyone, including me, what is inside of you!

Message8) The college football season is upon us. You need to circle the date of Saturday, September 19th at 6:00. In all likelihood this game with decide the eventual BCS national champion. What game you ask? Of course that would be the LSU-UL game in Baton Rouge.
7) What is the motto of the Jimmy V foundation?....”Don’t give up, Don’t ever give up!” Rembember, cancer cannot touch your mind, it cannot touch your heart, and it cannot touch your soul.
6) They say the mark of a man is not how he reacts when the seas are calm; however the true test is how he reacts when seas are rough.
5) From the now famous speech, Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture (if you haven’t seen it – Google it), “WE cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.” Control what you can control, “Just be and let God do the rest.”
4) How about don’t give up just because! For no other reason than JUST BECAUSE!
3) It’s not about winning every battle, but ultimately it’s about winning the war. Either way, you’re a winner in my book and the books of everyone who has followed your struggle.

Message2) Don’t give up because none of us are giving up and we won’t let you give up. Remember the poem “Footprints in the Sand” by Mary Stevenson...The Lord replied, “My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
1) One of my favorite movies is Brian’s Song, the true life story of Brian Piccolo, a running back for the Chicago Bears, who is sticken with Cancer. The movie chronicles Brian’s stuggle and his unlikely friendship with a shy rookie and eventual Hall of Famer by the name of Gale Sayers. At one point in the movie, Gale Sayers is accepting an award at a banquet and gives the following speech:
“I’d like to tell you about a guy I know, a friend of mine. His name is Brian Piccolo, and he has the heart of a giant, and that rare form of courage that allows him to kid himself and his opponent, cancer. He has a mental attitude that makes me proud to have a friend who spells out the word “courage” 24 hours a day............. I love Brian Piccolo, and I’d like all of you to love him too. And tonight, when you hit your knees, please ask God to love him.”
Now, re-read the quote and insert Blaine’s name. God Bless and dammit, keep fighting!
