| Message | Hi, My name is Richard and I have never talked to anyone about this since I was diagnosed, except to explain which went over everyones head and it it very hard somedays because NOBODY understands the impact or the feeling of losing abilities and still looked at like I should still be doing this or that and "what's the matter with you" comments!I cnat get many answers about what will happen and when and so on!! Of course nobody is doing any research because not many have it and they dont know how to FIX IT!!! So I sit alone in pain and silence because THEY DONT KNOW JACK!!!! |

| Message | I got my diagnosis in 2009 when I was 19. I went from working toward being a pharmacist, overly active, and loving to help others and keep healthy, to needing a constant stream of heavy narcotics to keep the pain away. I'm 26 now, and I'm amazed that my pain is being covered by OTCs. I did a detox of all my narcotics because the pain specialist I'm going to be seeing was concerned on why I hurt everywhere when I shouldnt. I'll be the first to say I was terrified, but I couldnt imagine the fact that those pain meds made the pain so much worse. It took everything and more to keep going through the detox, but life might actually mean something for me now. Talk to your doctors, see if something can be arranged for you. I lived as a 10 in that horrible pain scale, that was while I was taking enough to put five grown men into a coma. It worked for my pain, but all the other issues for my SM are still annoying, but my outlook is vastly different. SM destroyed my life. It took away my nearly photographic memory and ability to work in the field I wished to work in. I might be able to get life back again thanks to a doctor who wanted to know more. Detoxing from narcs isn't for everyone, but hopefully this helps you and anyone else who is dealing with life with SM. -Courtney Winburn |
