MessageI've just read this book in Chinese, not in English, because it's hard for me to enjoy a book in ABCs. ^ ^

But,this is really a very nice book.It really moves me!!Even though I haven't seen the original English edition.

I think, there will be few things, which are more precious than the frendship between Frank Doel and Helene Hanff!

MessageI came across this wonderful movie one night late, after a hard day of work, and became engrossed so heartedly. I was amazed, to find to of my most favorite theispians, Mrs. Anne Bancroft, and Sir Anthony Hopkins, that I turned off the lights and turned up the sound. Need it be said, I was not once bored or lulled to sleep once, while watch. The very next day I located a copy of the original book, and setforth to read what I had missed in the movie. Now jump forth 5 years and low and behold I find the film again online, and lovingly I do a URL search for the title and find this site. Now I have the complete story of our Hero and Heroin.

Sincere Thanks for your deligence in this site.

MessageI would just like to say that in my ignorance I was not aware that your shop actually still existed. I drove past your shop last week by accident and was delighted as "84" as my wife and I call it is by far the best story I have ever seen turned into film in such a loving way. The feeling of warmth and reasurrance we get from watching this film is priceless. Keep up the good work, and I hope to visit you soon (I may even spend some money).
Regards
Andy
(Administrator's Note: I think the shop mentioned in the above post is "84 Charing Cross Road Books" of Stevenage in Hertfordshire UK.
This shop is in no way connected with this web site or indeed with Marks & Co formerly of Charing Cross Road, London)

MessageIt is a delight to know that your website exists and is dedicated to the memory of those who were part of the Marks & Co, 84 Charring Cross Rd history.

I have read Leo Marks Between Silk & Cyanide and his bibliography, particularly his dedicated service during WWII.

The nostalgia of the Helene Hanff's book and subsequent movie is one that both my wife have enjoyed and continue to talk about from time to time. It is a reflection of the times past when doing things in the proper and respectful manner were common place instead of being extra ordinary.

Keep up the site because it is and will be of value to those who haven't even been born yet.

MessageI was searching everything about Miss Helen Hanff and the famous bookshop Mark & Co. after reading 84, Charing Cross Road. It's so heart warming, sort of a soup for a lonely soul...

Almost 90% of my book collections were bought at second hand's book store. That's why I felt a strong connection between Helene and me, as we both take a great pleasure reading used books. Somehow, every used book brings memories and spirits of the previous owner. It has a lot more tale to tell rather than a new one.

MessageI came upon your site searching for information on this wonderful story and bookshop. I'm building the bookshop in 1/12th scale (dollshouse)and needed inspiration and ideas and you have helped more than I can say. The pictures you have included will be re-created in miniature.

Message"Underfoot in Show Business" has been turned into a play (based on Helene's memoir about life in the New York theater in the late 1930s and 1940s. It is being performed in Eastbourne, UK, in May 2008.

I thought all of Helene's fans should know especially those in/around East Sussex.
