MessageI just re-read my last message that includes mistakes. Sorry! I met The Shadows at the Apollo Theatre in Oxford, England on 25 September 1978. I had just turned 15 years old. I was quite speechless. It was before their concert that evening and when my dad and I went into the theatre, we could hear the Shads practising Shazam. Memorable day.

Neils, I think you're very lucky to have met Hank so often. I also like the pictures of your Burns. Very jealous.

Three cheers for the original Guitar Hero!

MessageI grew up with Cliff & The Shadows music, as my dad is great Cliff fan - always has been. However, while I think Cliff is fantastic, I have to say the Hank is The Man. I used to play guitar in my band and we did a lot of Shads music. I always wanted to get my guitar to sound just like Hank's. He's a musical genuis and vastly under-rated in the wider world. As a general musician he's terrific, and his songwriting and composing ability has tragically gone laregly unnoticed.

Hank's solo albums have shown off tremdous guitaring talent that much of The Shadows well known hits have not capitalised on. Still, they didn't do too bad!

I met the Shadows in at the Apollo Theatre on 25 September 1978. Hank, Bruce & Brian autographed across my copy of the sheet music for The Rise & Fall of Flingel Bunt.

I was at O2 Arena in September 2009 to see Cliff and the Shads. What an evening of memories. I almost wept while they played Shadoogie (not the most emotional piece, I know, but it has such a personal history for me from my days in the band).

I have so many favourite Shadows tracks and albums. I always liked 'Zambezi' from Dance with The Shadows, and The Rockin' with Curly Leads album is so rich, musically. Of the songs Hank has written or co-written, I really like Time Drags By. Such a clever song, with great harmonies. I love them all.

Good stuff, Hank. You've made my life!

MessageWhat a great site! My late father was a shadows fan,and a fantastic guitarist too! but he most certainly had the Hank Marvin sound going on, and if you were to close your eyes and listen, you would honestly be none the wiser... I am so proud of what he achieved and he was totally inspired by Hank... I've felt comforted by visiting this site tonight as in my little moment of sadness, I have felt close to my dad through this site and his love of music, thankyou x

MessageHi,
my first visit your site. This is a fantastic, and well deserved tribute to Hank. As a young teenager, I listened to The Shadows, in the early sixties. My dad bought me a guitar, and since then I've been playing The Shadows music. Their influence on me has lasted to the present day. The fantastic sound of Hank playing his guitar will go on for ever.
Congradulations on wonderful site.
Joe.

MessageHank,I was at The Dome in Johannesburg, 14 March. You guys are terrific. I thoroughly enjoyed your performance. It took me back to the early 60s when you were in Salisbury,Rhodesia playing at The Palace Theatre. And now all these years later, I am enjoying the same experience. Thank you so much for allowing us all to appreciate you and the guys again.
Best of luck in the future. Wish we could see Cliff and The Shadows again. smilie

MessageHi Hank

Always loved your music. Can play most of your shadows lead on my guitar .I would love to meet you and play guitar with you on a few Shadows songs e.g Apache. Atlantis and Flingle Bunt. I was born Liverpool 1952 and emigrated to Australia in 1966.

It would be a dream come true to meet you and even a miracle to play guitar with you. But I guess that's impossible. I am a Christian like Cliff and I feel you guys are too . I'll keep praying it is possible to meet you one day in Perth maybe.I was at your recent concert in Sydney 21/2/10.

Thanks for every note and chord of music you guys have played.
